Cooling solutions for the Xbox 360

I've seen one or two aftermarket cooling products for the Xbox 360. Are there any that people on here have actually used and are happy with.

Not many people have problems with burning out, but anyway, the new one Hexus previewed draws power via USB which is better.

They do increase the noise, but the DVD drive is so damn noisy anyway it makes little difference to overall noise, and a big difference to internal temperatures. I only chucked away my Nyko intercooler because the ball bearings in the fans were going after only a few weeks, so they made a horrible grinding noise when I turned it on.

I took my R6 Vegas DVD disc out of the tray and examined it - oh my god! It was in very poor condition and looked as if it had been through a spin dryer.

I've got a CD repair kit which consists of a clear resin liquid and a soft polishing cloth. I managed to clean the disc but it took about 5 minutes of polishing to get it all clean and shiny again.

That DVD transport is very poor indeed.

i have a Nyko intercooler and the only reason why i took it off is because of claims that it can mess up your xbox and that it diddnt cover the warranty!

Taz, Do you play with your console vertical or horizontal?

There seems to be a slight problem with using the xbox 360 vertically as it tends to scratch disks. Microsoft are aware of the probelm and have even offered replacement disks to owners.

My advice play horizontaly, play straight

I've also heard of that problem, although no-one believed me when I told them.

It's vertical (mainly for space-saving reasons) - you can hear the disc rattling around inside - I might ask MS for a replacement disc.

I'll set it to horizontal to see how it fares. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm considering getting a new cooling solution of my 360, it's going to be out of warranty soon and I've had some problems with it (nothing major though, the occasional DRE). I hope they fixed the fans in the nyko cooler (or that mine was from a dodgy batch) cos the ball bearings shouldn't go after only a month of use.

This also occurs on the horizontal. My friend will attest to that, he needs a new Gears Of War disc.

Just another angle on this I i've searched various forums recently researching the dreaded three rings of death and in an unscientific way I find more people have had borked consoles when horizontal than vertical, which I again unscientifically believe is down too poorer air circulation.

I personally think your better off having the console vertical in an openish space, we could do with another option to vote on wether consoles were vertical or horizontal when they failed. I have had my console vertical since I got it and haven't had any problem disks.
