HEXUS FOLDING TEAM It's EASY
Got myself a PS3 today from currys Motorstorm + Resistance + extra sixaxis for £299. Not bad i thought.
First impressions are good, its supremely quiet (as in having to put my ear to it to check its on). Although im comparing it to my 360 which is probably the noisest model they made (hitachi drive and delta fans). Few downsides are the controller which is not a patch on the 360 pad and the PSN store being a bit limited (even the USA one).
Feel free to add me to friends. PSN Tag: Cougho.
Uncharted was cracking. Really enjoyed making my way through that one. I was very pleased that it was in the bundle. Resistance, on the other hand was pretty dire. Subpar to COD3, which it was most like and I quickly traded it in.
Overall so far I like my PS3. It is being used mostly as a Bluray and DVD player at present. I will keep my eyes open for more games in genres that I like though.
Also, what a cracking job it does of playing SD DVDs, superb PQ and good sound once you change from LPCM for normal DVDs.
Not around too often!
bought mine with ratchet and clank & star wars lego from GAME same time as you mate. Upgraded from a 360 which i sold along with accessories for about £250 just before the price drop (so not much extra to pay out).
In comparison to the 360 the PS3 rocks - I've always preferred Sony's Pad to the 360 controller (never could get used to that!). Build quality of this console is better than teh xbox and have to agree that the charging method for the pad's are a bit of a pain. Its REALLY quiet (yes had to check mine to see if it was working ok too!) until you pop in a game then vooooom - same as xbox for noise.
Bit sadened to see ratchet and clank and star wars lego II didnt support 1080p (nor many other games) but those that do i.e. GT5 Prologue, StarDust HD, etc look miles better than teh Xbox quality
ONLY downside of the PS3 I found was for streaming (which will hopefully get better as more updates are upon us). Had a MAAAASIVE collections of HD WMV's which used to play fine on the Xbox, they now play fine video wise on the PS3 but due to the lack of WMA Pro (its only got WMA decoding yet) I get no sound. Saying that, the video codecs compatibility is greater with the PS3 as it can play DivX/XVid's fine unlike my older 360 which only ever used to play AVI's and WMV's.
sorry guys - I should have been clearer - The XBOX was sat on its own outside my TV cabinet but always whined like a ho regardless
The PS3 however - is sat inside my TV cabinet and only spins up when I game - so yes you guys are probably right - It cus of the fact I got it inside the cabinet (I don't have space to leave it outside + a 1 year old running around now I don't have that luxury of leaving my stuff on the floor )
Got the 40Gb version - First thing I did before firing it up (which I might aswell mention here) was stick in a bigger hard drive! - I had a 250Gb WD Passport USB drive kicking around - ripped it open and wahaaaay - a 2.5" Scorpio 5400RPM 250GB SATA drive was facing me . I swapped the 40Gb drive from the PS3 into the casing for the Passport and stuck the 250Gb in my PS3. Stuck Yellow Dog linux on it (I'd advise doing this BEFORE you download any games as you will need to repartition the HDD (using PS3 system))
250Gb PS3 for teh win - something I could never do with my xbox always running out of HDD space - now I can't use up the HDD space lol. Its soo easy to do - loads of posts on many sites on how to do it (just need to remove one screw!) - easiest mod ever done - beats PC modding - lol!
oh and btw - The PS3 does support WMA Pro - just <9.2 - it doesnt support version 10 of WMA as yet. Currently going through the processing of demuxing my WMV's to get it down to 9.2 audio (which also means I have to drop from 5.1 audio to 2 )
yup information on the best forums

one thing that has impressed me since getting my PS3 (and replacing my old sony MP3 player with a sony A816) is how Sony (and I can't believe I'm about to say this) seem to be going more and more to 'compatible' standards. The PS3 has - shock and horror - standard ports and power connections on the back and the sony A816 works with windows media player (still a proprietary charging cable, but hey, it's a damn site better than having sonicstage forced onto you).... really seems to be a shift in the sony mindset in last year or two...
