    Re: Xbox 360 wireless performance

I wish I'd seen this earlier Steven W.

I baulked at the idea of £60 on a single wireless adapter, so I ended up with the Netgear WGPS606. It is marketed as a wireless print server, but it also has a 4 port ethernet switch, allowing connection of devices equipped with a wired network port.

At the mo, I don't even have a printer connected to it, instead my HTPC, Secondary Desktop and XBox/Sky HD boxes are connected to it.

No lag what so ever, and was about the same price as the Wireless adapter, but gave many, many more options.

Ah gawd! I had a feeling there must be an alternative, but I didn't know where to look for one. Never mind.

Well, the good news is because the Wireless adapters are universally priced at £60, and it is nigh on impossible to get them any substantial amount cheaper, should you decide you have more devices you want to hook up then you can sell the adapter for relatively little loss, and get yourself one of these.

Honestly, you wouldn't regret it. Once set up, I haven't reset it this year (oh, half of last aswell).

Anyway, if the wireless adapter does what you need, then enjoy it, and don't worry about the alternatives.

    Re: Xbox 360 wireless performance

my xbox 360 is hardwired, went through the wireless route but found it useless. so i moved the whole router next to the xbox. luckily got 2 broadband connections - so one is dedicated 360 line :-)

    Re: Xbox 360 wireless performance

I'm lucky my router is right next to my 360 but i'd suggest homeplugs or simple access point as far better/cheaper/more functional alternatives to the official adapter.

I wish the dash gave you download speeds when getting demos etc, i'm interested to know what sort of speed i'm getting as demos seem to come down pretty quick & i know 7meg goes into my router but i only get 3-5 on my laptop/PC.

no your internet connections is prob 8mbs or something lag will be caused by 1 of 2 things packet loss or the higher ping (latency/lag) incurred by using wireless.

    Re: Xbox 360 wireless performance

I use the wireless connection and it works great have no real issues with it and often use it in conjunction with my vista pc for the media centre options
