I just tried PMS (LOL what a name PS3 Media Server ...) it streams better IMO.

Yep, PMS wins hands down for PS3 use. I have it installed on my PS3 and it plays pretty much every file type I can throw at it, including recorded TV in DVR-MS format on my PS3
I haad never even heard of PMS (except for the wifes ) but it works beautifully for me. No problems setting it up, just installed it on to PC and PS3 found it straight away.

I've put the latest ps3 update on and now I can't use pms, I can't pick up any medea servers not just pms. Is anyone else having this problem?
Can you check in the network options that the 'media servers' option is enabled?
If it is, disable it and shut down, then start up from cold and enable it. If it isn't enabled, just set it on.
Did you have to do any fancy network settings to get your PS3 on your home network?
It turns out I forgot that I installed the latest pms, I hadn't changed the network card in pms. Now I've changed it it works ok.
The biggest problem I have on the PS3 from the media servers (all of them that I've tried so far) is that there's no easy way to search your mp3s, nor to order things like artist by the first letter. This means if I want to play a track by Nirvana I would have to scroll through all artists from A-M and this would take an awfully long time. Have I missed the bit where I can search by letter or better yet just search by typing in a few letters ("ni") to narrow the choice a bit more quickly?
