The new DLC is not over a Gig I can tell you, what it probably assumes is that your XBL account is linked to an Arcade or Core system (even if you have upgraded since). Maybe when you first set up your account, or at sometime since, you have been logged on to a Core/Arcade system and therefor put flag on their database to say you dont have enough.

It shouldn't matter to you tbh, as you will be able to start the download whenever. However it would give you the oportunity to grab a cheap spare HD if they think your on an Arcade/Core system as they may be offereing extremely cheap HDs to that end of the market.

Regardless of whether or not you actually have a core or arcade version, either way, as you now have the HD you should not need to worry.

Yeah, I know for shizzle it isn't, takes about 5-10 mins

You will need a HDD for most of the benfits though, but otherwise to upgrade you need a memory card/hdd, if you need one there is a link from MS where they are selling refurbs cheap

NXE is about 300 meg big

people with core/arcade systems will be able to enter their serial number into some MS webpage & get a free 512MB memory card, or $20 20GB disk, to ensure they have space to install it.

I'll let my friend know about that, he went online with a core system with no hard drive when he first got his console. Despite now having a hard drive he may as well take advantage and I'll take his old one off his hands

I ordered mine last Tuesday using the following LINK. It's being delivered by UPS and should be here today.

I think the cost is like this. If you've got an original core 360 then the drive is £12.99, if you've got an arcade 360 then its £19.99 with 3 months live access. I've read that they know if you've got an HD already plugged in and may not offer you the deal.

Edit. Mine has arrived today, it took exactly 7 days to get to me.
