Well it was sent to my messages on my xbox but it was a warning saying i do not have enough spare memory for the new xbox expereince...your right at the time i had about 11/12 GB free so how much is it going to leave for demo's ect ect :/
The new DLC is not over a Gig I can tell you, what it probably assumes is that your XBL account is linked to an Arcade or Core system (even if you have upgraded since). Maybe when you first set up your account, or at sometime since, you have been logged on to a Core/Arcade system and therefor put flag on their database to say you dont have enough.
It shouldn't matter to you tbh, as you will be able to start the download whenever. However it would give you the oportunity to grab a cheap spare HD if they think your on an Arcade/Core system as they may be offereing extremely cheap HDs to that end of the market.
Regardless of whether or not you actually have a core or arcade version, either way, as you now have the HD you should not need to worry.

I ordered mine last Tuesday using the following LINK. It's being delivered by UPS and should be here today.
I think the cost is like this. If you've got an original core 360 then the drive is £12.99, if you've got an arcade 360 then its £19.99 with 3 months live access. I've read that they know if you've got an HD already plugged in and may not offer you the deal.
Edit. Mine has arrived today, it took exactly 7 days to get to me.
