I can't afford to buy every game that is released that I really want. 3 kids really drains the finances, this is where pre owned comes in great.

Also when you look at buying trends, you tend to find around the first 2 months on initial release is the high point with the sales. Then it drops off

Generally I only buy games if I really want them - in such cases I have them pre-ordered.

Otherwise, I will wait until I'm bored of everything else I have, then go and get new stuff. Even then, I prefer to buy a new copy, since I'm generally wary of pre-owned stuff. Only buy pre-owned in 2 instances: there is no new copy, or it's a replacement (like if I had a copy that got scratched, or burned or whatever)

I mostly buy second hand old games, you can get some really cheap ones eg. crackdown £5 Halo3, lost odyssey and GOW for £10 each. It pays to wait sometimes.

Have to agree with some only buy the big name games on release, otherwise i'll wait and sure enough they will come down in price by quite a bit normally!!!

Re: Buying games when they're old is great!

I tend to wait with dvd's but when it comes to games I tend to buy them a few at a time when they're at the right price and build up a backlog. For instance over the last two months I've picked up Fable 2, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Little Big Planet and Star Wars Force Unleashed and three of them are still shrink wrapped waiting for the new year, didn't pay more than twenty quid new for any of them but Fallout either and that's only because it was pay day and the lunchbox edition seemed like a good idea.

I tend to buy a lot of games (oh I'm a student btw) and it's surprising how much you can save buy trawling the internet for half an hours looking for special offers.
