PS3 - worth it or not?

I already have a 360 and love it, however noticed there are a few games I am liking the look of on the PS3 that are exclusives. Not forgetting that the PS3 has BluRay also so saves me having to buy an extra standalone player and the Playstation network thing is going to be free Multiplayer I believe, going on everything in one system type of thing here!

Not forgetting the hardware failure rate on the PS3 is nowhere near the same as the 360, at times I dread turning on my 360 incase I get the RROD (touch wood I havn't had one yet, I have the Falcon version with HDMI), it has locked up a few times with visually intensive games and heart is in my mouth when I reboot.

    Games I'm looking at :

    Little Big Planet
    Unchartered Drakes Fortune
Resistance 1 & 2 (Huge Gears fan and they look kinda similar type games)

So, is it worth me getting a PS3 for 4 game titles (at present) ? I know there is a Drakes Fortune follow up due out whenever.

What else is out there for the PS3 for someone like me? I tend to go for 3rd person action type games and RPG stuff. I have Fallout 3, Oblivion, Gears 2, Mass Effect etc

If you think you'll get the use out of it then why not? It's your cash! I've been eying up a PS3 myself despite having a 360 but am looking at it as more for playing BluRay discs than games.

depends how wealthy you are feeling. Its a big layout for a few luxuries, but if you have the cash sitting around and nothing more important to buy then why not!

I was thinking its around £180 now for a standalone BluRay player, for just over and extra £100 you have the gaming side of things also. Then if my 360 does decide to die on me at least I still have something to play on!

Think its going to be worthwhile, opens up my choices when it comes to games on the formats also, even if I just get the PS3 exclusives and use my 360 as the core system I still have a 1080p BluRay player there.

That's a fair comment. In my own situation i don't buy enough films for it to be an investment to be worth making. I have interest in a few of the exclusives but not needing the blue ray it doesn't make sense for me

My thinking exactly. I'd really like Little Big Planet and Gran Tourismo when it ever comes out. Until then it would just be a BluRay player. FWIW the PS3 is considered one of the best BluRay players on the market until you hit the grand price range.

Re: PS3 - worth it or not?

Ferral, I have one alongside my 360. I don't use the PS3 for gaming (prefer the 360 personally), but it makes for a very good Blu-ray player.

Re: PS3 - worth it or not?

There are probably more games which will spark your interest, I would say its worth it. Uncharted is a cracking game, I am playing it though again (now with trophies) and loving it. I wasn't a fan of Resistance so haven't got them. LBP has been bought for me for Christmas. If you like the designing aspect then I am sure you will like it. It will go as a good complement to your XBox.

Some other titles you might be interested in:

    Wipeout
    Ratchet and Clank
    Stardust HD

Re: PS3 - worth it or not?

I got a ps3 this summer and haven't really used it very much to date.... i knew that the xbox would have much more games but the rrod did put me off a lot (my mate is on his 3rd one right now!). i bought it mainly for the ps3 exclusives (mgs4 and the upcoming ones) and of course the blu ray drive.

if you like rpgs then have a look at white knight story. looks good but won't be coming out till next year

Why not just spend £65 on an LG Blu-Ray drive?!

You mean for my PC? And why would I want to do that? My PC is in my study miles away from my living room. Who wants to watch 1080p films on a 22" monitor? Admit it - you're just trolling.

Re: PS3 - worth it or not?

I dont use my ps3 at all...

knoxville on here told me last night that my last sign in was 66 days ago...

xbox beats it hands down in my opinion...

I have about 10 games for ps3, and 4 for xbox... yet xbox is on daily and ps3 hasnt been on in 66 days. (god alone knows how long its been since the wii was turned on)...

I'd say its not worth it if its just for the occassional film... blueray is a bit expensive for now, when u can get the same film on dvd for less than half price in most cases... wait til they drop price a bit more imo...

Nah, I can't be bothered with all that hassle. I'd rather have an instant on device that you can just load a disc into and press play without any other messing about.

I thought it a valid suggestion. But alas no good if you're pc isn't connected to a HDTV.

Would be nice to have a ps3 but in my opinion it's not worth it for the cost, rather put the money towards a pc.
