TEmpted by a 360 but have a few questions

    Hey ppl,

It was my birthday yesterday and I have a some cash to spend and was thinking of getting a 360.

First question I have is which SKU is better. I was looking at the elite because it has HDMI but can see that all the models now have hdmi so was wondering is the bigger hard drive worth the extra 50 quid or am I not likely to fill the 60 gb any time soon?

Second question is about the media player capabilities. IE does it make a good media player? WIll it playback HD format videos over a network ?

Third Im a pc gamer so other than Fable 2 what console exclusive games would you suggest are worth buying?

    1. Elite if you have the money you can now rip the full game of the disk on to the hard drive and play without the disk in more hard drive space = more games you can play without the disk in the loud dvd drive lol

    2. the media extender on the 360 work and looks just like Windws Media center Vista media centre there are plenty of sites about that will show you how to play diffrent format files.

    3. donno about exclusives but the games iv enjoyed playing on the xbox360 are GOW 1/ GOW 2 , Mass Effect , Forza 2, Dead Rising , Assasin Creed, Halo 3 , Fable 2 i dont have many newer games so i cant tell you whats cool right now.

    Hope that helps

Re: TEmpted by a 360 but have a few questions

Assassins Creed is not an exclusive

I'd opt for the 60GB model, as you are more likely to get a Jasper chipset from the likes of Play or Amazon. The media capabilities are very good and if you have a streaming server on your network it will pick that up, as well as if you use Windows Media Player. If you are not located near your router, you will have to get a wireless card for £60ish for it to connect to your network.

I can vouch for Mass Effect and Gears of War 2. Brill games.

    VC-1 files - not a problem.

MKV or any other formats would need to be converted using transcode 360 or another similar tool.

As for xvid/divx - for some reason when in media extender mode it will not play my divX/Xvid stuff but plays them through the xbox dashboard and navigating to the drive/pendrive where the files are.

    that is not true...

the disk still has to be in, but it reads from hdd drive instead of disk...

£50 is not worth it... just get the 60gb one for cheaper IMHO....

Re: TEmpted by a 360 but have a few questions

If you get the arcade (£100 at Asda) you can upgrade the HDD for £70 or so, so benefits of an elite at Pro prices roughly, and you get some arcade games free over just 1

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...soundsvault-21 (£70 from amazon)
Or you can get the 60gb HDD seperate, with a headset and live sub for £60ish

You also get the benefit of 256mb onboard storage too

Benefit of the Elite....optical/RCA breakout (only useful if you use a receiver really) or just use an HDMI cable (arcade only has a scart connection, pro has component too)

If you're talking about the wireless adaptor, you can do what my friend does and use a bridged connection through a laptop.

Some wireless access points can also be used as well

I've resorted to having mine hard-wired due to xbox live kicking me 1/2 way through games when the wireless spiked a little.

A linksys WRT54G can be modded to be an access point for this purpose.

    Wired is best though

Re: TEmpted by a 360 but have a few questions

I would personally go for the new HDMI 60gb model, but it's far easier to fill up the storage space these days especially with the install feature for games - which does actually help when you install your favourite games.

I came across from PC gaming too and now it's my main gaming platform. I now only play a few RTS's and Steam games on my computer lol!

Before with media, I used to sync it up with my computer and stream things via the network, but I just find it far easier just to put a few vids or whatever I want onto a USB stick and just open em up.

Pretty sure the guy at work bought an arcade last week, it was the new jasper model (had the lower voltage shown by the power cord socket) and it had HDMI built in.
