New Xbox announced - Xbox One - So what did you think?

    Stream here

I'm off to watch the stream again to see if I missed anything as I had a flakey connection but I'm not overly amazed, lots of living room integration as expected. One big feature was NFL partnership, yeah that's useful for the rest of the world...

Seems MS might have gone more entertainment box while Sony went towards gaming.

They've also just announced that ALL COD DLC will be timed exclusives on the Xbox, wow, really? That's a feature nowadays is it?
COD Ghosts new features for next-gen: Dogs, leaning and fish...I kid you not...

I suspect the look is deliberately low-key, so that it blends with the rest of your home entertainment gear.

So its a TIVO video player, kinect for voice sensing and changing what you want to do and the usual yearly churnouts from various devs. Call of Duty Ghosts, looks like a cross between Battlefield 3 visually and Ghost Recon.....Go Figure

Do Microsoft actually realise that a games console is primarily used for games???!!

Did you know that the Sony shares have gone up 8% since it finished and the XBox ones have dropped slightly!!

PS4 all the way for me now 100%

The specs that they flashed up briefly looked good, waiting on the panel for more detail on that. Can see some to the new features being useful, others not so much. But then, if theyve put them in, someone might find a new use for them that noone has yet thought of

    Linky link?

Considering they have been talking the whole media centre thing for months and barely mentioning games I'm not surprised

Re: New Xbox announced - Xbox One - So what did you think?

It uses an AMD 8 core Jaguar CPU as part of the SOC:

    http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/x...paign=Engadget

The SOC has 5 billion transistors. The system also has 8GB of RAM too.

Microsoft has confirmed that all Xbox One games will require mandatory installation onto the system's hard drive and, to install the same disc onto another user's drive, a fee must be paid.

Individual games will be tied to Xbox Live accounts, Microsoft said, meaning that the software giant can detect whether a game has been sold to a retailer and repurchased, or handed from one friend to another. In such instances, the second user must pay a fee

    More pictures:

    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/

Supposedly, there is an internal picture too.

I do think the article is wrong when they say the SOC is fabbed on a 40NM process.

    Internals look.....I dunno, just not "next-gen" !

I'd started to read stuff about the pre-owned fee, I wonder what it'll be? £1, yeah, not too fussed, £15, I'll buy it new in 6 months for that price thanks!

Like with the PS4 almost all the functionality of the console is in one tightly integrated chip, which from a technical aspect is quite impressive IMHO.

Later XBox360 consoles combined the CPU and GPU into one chip:

Re: New Xbox announced - Xbox One - So what did you think?

That was done after a deal between MS, ADM and IBM to allow AMD to combine the gpu with the powerpc cpu and shrink the architecture, to make them cheaper to manufacture.

    On the always on thing.
Perhaps most intriguing, however, is that Xbox One gives game developers the ability to access Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform. That leads to a few obvious and immediate applications: All your downloaded and installed games and achievements are synced to the cloud and can be accessed and played without interruption on any Xbox One you sign in to; stable, dedicated servers for every multiplayer game rather than the notoriously fragile practice of hosting matches on one participant’s console; even multiplayer matches that can grow to 64, even 128 participants, rather than the usual limit of 16 or 32.
looks like MS is making it an an account based system, think steam for xbox, if it's the same then you can run it off line but any online services will not work, which services will be game dependent.
And it's going to be dependent on how much MS will charge developers/publishers for these services.
