Is there a streamer that can playback .vob files?

Thinking of backing up all my DVDs onto the PC, but then I'd need a way to view them on the TV in the other room.

Is there a streamer that can play .vob files without problems? Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 seem unable, but there must be something that does the trick?

I'm aware that I could convert the DVDs to another format to allow them to play on the 360, but I'd prefer to keep the files intact and be able to browse menus from the TV.

This supports everything by the look of it including VOB files

I've been following this for a while and they've been getting rave reviews all over the place and I'm seriously tempted to get one for when I have to move in with the girlfriend.

I presume he means films he's made himself - such as family parties and the like...

Re: Is there a streamer that can playback .vob files?

I researched this a while ago when I was trying to work out how to stream music from a PC to a 360 for a mate. TVersity can stream practically any file (.vob is mentioned on their site), if that doesn't work, or you don't like it, there's Orb as well.

Shall we forget the "and the like..." part, that could open up a whole different discussion

I use a MacMini for this, but it maybe overkill for what you want.

I'm only asking as B0redom junior has started opening dvd cases and 'sorting' them so my collection is in danger. I was going to ask a question about ripping TV boxsets....

    Yes and yes.

This has been covered a few times, Saracen has also posted pages of comment on it.

Apparently there is a bill in parliament that will correct this problem, but that takes time. The BPI has said it would not prosecute individuals for ripping their own collection for personal use. However this doesn't mean that the record companies or any other rights organisation wouldn't take you to court if they wanted to.

Just to clarify, there is no provision in UK law that covers "backup" of CD or DVDs for personal use. There is a clause for software disks, but media isn't classed as software.
