if anyone ever paid attention to the frontpage, they'd see i already reviewed a happy little ogg/mp3/wma/flac player here. the iriver supports ogg, as do the xclef, neuros & more. the main players who don't support it are creaive ("lazy ****ers") and apple ("we don't have an agenda, honest").

vorbis is a completely royalty free standard, it costs between $0 and $0 to implement, save paying a programmer in beer, and there are no funny licensing concerns. the only reason for players not to support it are laziness or politics.

Ok so they DID finish the ogg firmware then i was aware it existed just not in what state.
My favourites only point to forums.hexus.net sorry.
Mp3 defo hasnt been replaced yet mind.

I use dbPowerAmp Music Converter to make mp3s. It works well for me

Use ogg fromat in Linux though and I have to say it does seem to sound very good.

Right i downloaded EAC and Lame encoder and gave them a shot and i have to say that i'm well impressed. Cheers for the links guys as it does everything i want it to although i'm yet to test the album info update service thing as i haven't got the net on that partiular PC at the moment. Shame about the vorbis site been down at the moment although i guess it'll be resolved soon, i'd of liked to give ogg a listen.

What do you mean by the "ogg firmware" bud ?
Every device has different firmware, taking one from one player and putting it into a different device wont work.
The people who make the firmware, will have to take the OGG source and build it into their firmware for every device.
Unfortunately there isnt a universal one that can be put on every device
