Actually, forget i said they're not as loud.

I've worked this out. The Sonys seemed louder but i think thats because they started to distort at higher levels making them seem louder.

I'm now pretty sure these are just as loud.

Only complaint after a few hours use is that in 'busy' music the mid-high range can get a little messy. Bass is strong and clear though

I got the Shure E2c based on lots of recommendations but I'm unimpressed. They just don't sound good and aren't very comfortable. I've gone back to my £20, 5-6 year old Sony earbuds, Sennheiser HD580s for more serious listening.

Are the Sony earbuds the ED-228LP?

Which have been replaced by the ED21

They're not as comfortable as others but they do block out amazing amounts of sound.

I've found they're ok once you get the right buds on them and once they've been in your ear for a while (10 mins ish) you can hardly feel them.

They absolutly rock on acoustic style tracks eg james blunt but on busy stuff like rock they're not so good

The £30 sonies or the E2C's and above.

White is stupid overrated and no longer looks cool since the entire goddamn planet now owns a pair of crappy white earphones. I go black on purpose these days.

I never hopped on the white bandwagon, I think the only reason Apple even went with white is because its different, not that its any good otherwise.

The chrome bits on Sonys are anoying me though, i'll have to colour them in

I've never gone white either. Would rather keep whats in my pocket discreet, not an ipod but still an expensive piece of equipment!

On a side note i just put some dance (Lasgo) on and it sounds so amazingly different. Doesnt have that hugely overpowering bass ive heard it with on everything else. Still there but much more sophisticated.

Also had some joss stone on earlier and heard a few bits in there i'd never heard before. Listened to that album so many times that im supprised to hear new bits

I am bumping this because I feel like it is my duty to spread the Koss love. For those on a budget, I cannot recommend the KSC-75 enough
(If you don't mind the headband, then the Porta Pro is a good the alternative)

The only downside is, those are "open" (unlike canal phones which are "closed" and isolating). So the later is more suitable for travels (trains, planes etc.).. although I probably won't wear them in the street (don't wanna get runned over lol).
Anyway, though I spent silly money on my canal phones (Westone UM2), I actually found myself using the Porta Pro/KSC-75 more often at the moment.

Edit: And no, I do not work for Koss

I have been convinced by some others to try those Koss Plugs with Etymotic earbud midifications. Since they are about 2/3 the price of the EX-71 and don't have build quality issues i'm going to try it out

Umm, I can't say that I've heard great things about the Koss Plug. Mind ya, I've not heard great things about the EX-71 (at least compared to offerings from Shure, Etymotic etc.) either. How much do those costs anyway?

    Heres an ebay link:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

I don't think there are any UK sellers for them, but they aren't expensive to import

Umm, thats interesting (pretty cheap). All the best with it

I still don't know why those cost so little to import, whereas the KSC-75 cost a lil fortune (so much so that I ended up getting from a UK buyer.. at 3x the US price, no less).

cool those look nifty marcos .. let us know wether they are any good as i have been loking out for a replacement for my mx500's which have developed an imbalance so some how the left channel is louder and makes them unusable on a portable player
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering
