Both motherboards seems quite capable,so it is up to personal preference IMHO.
This 990X motherboard uses the same VRM and appears to be quite capable:

Thanks again for the links CAT. The ASUS on that review has similar specs as the M5A78 PRO, with some nice features. Seems to overclock decent the ASUS VRMs are some of the best quality aren't they?
And yeah that's a good idea, don't know why I wanted to downgrade when I could disable. Thanks guys for all the help!
Does anybody still care about Bulldozer?
FX4200 spotted:
http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2012/2...port_list.html
It seems to have 8MB of L2 cache so it could be a typo. OTH,it could be a 4M/4C CPU??
BTW does the ASUS M5A97 PRO have the BIOS update to allow FX... I only have a FX CPU so if it hasn't im stuck.
Already bought it.
It's hard to say for certain, hopefully you'll get the latest BIOS already present (you'd hope so considering how long BD has been out now) but if not there's no guarantee it will work. I had a similar problem with the first motherboard I bought along with my 1055T - the system would just keep rebooting, making POST once in a while but there was no way I could flash it. It worked OK with the latest BIOS but like you say it's a pain if you don't have a spare CPU to hand...
Well looking on the ASUS site now apparently only the latest BIOS works with the FX. So fingers crossed
Test of FX8150 under Windows 8 Consumer Preview:

Edit!!
There seems to be decent improvements in the games tested and the power consumption profile improvements look good too.

Thanks Watercooled for offering loan of your CPU, but fortunately the BIOS was up to date, came through today
Great, but it was Biscuit who offered BTW.
Oh yeah I am so sorry! I misread, because Watercooled quoted.
Thank you Biscuit! Forgive me
