Richland does very well, though more thorough review once he's back from travelling apparently.

Exactly. Mothballed is pointless and dumb.

I have run plenty of systems with minimal graphics in the past. If I got one of these Athlons, I need to add a £20 graphics card.

In my current system, I had a graphics card fail. I used the 790 chipset graphics until a replacement turned up. Can't game on that, but I could at least get on the web and order a replacement.

It also annoys me that there is bound to still be integrated graphics buried in AM3+ chipsets, but only the now ancient 760G seems to be available with that feature.

Edit to add: I think what rubs me the wrong way is that it feels like we have lost options/flexability in recent motherboards.

Well that is an interesting snippet:

"AMD is proud of its valiation on the A10-6800K, any parts that won't pass at DDR3-2133 are demoted to lower end SKUs"

so don't buy low end parts then if you want to OC!

If they can manage decent battery life then it's going to be time to dust of the credit card!

I am little confused, i have read Kaveri will be fm2 compatible, but its still slated as fm3? Will using an fm2 board affect performance?

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Seems like compatibility is similar to that between AM3 and AM3+, which makes sense given the + designation.

Still, I wonder if there are any real reasons they had to break compatibility? Intel have been doing it needlessly for ages, I hope AMD aren't going that way.

If the pictures of Kaveri linked by CAT in post #1588 are real, Kaveri has two extra pins that cant fit in current FM2 motherboards unless you hammer it.

I'm a little disappointed by AMD, hope this socket change will bring something worthy.

Whats with the lack of Richland reviews by Hexus?? They seem to be reviewing a million GTX770 cards.
