Hmmm, HP have some unusual options on there for an APU-based slim/light laptop. No SSD options, a variety of single-channel memory options, ridiculous costs on upgrades - the only sensible option would be to spend the minimum on the entry level config ($600 == £450?), then another £100 or so on an additional 4GB RAM and 120GB SSD. So £550, for 8GB dual-channel DDR3-1600 and an SSD, and watch it beat the pants off all the Ultrabooks
Athlon branded versions:

So as I see it, if 3.2GHz is a 65W TDP ad 3.4GHz is 100W TDP, then it can only just be into that 100W bin and there should be plenty of headroom?
I presume these will be versions with the integrated graphics disabled completely again. that seems a shame, leaving say 80 shaders would be nice, frankly on a desktop that is either enough or I need a discrete card anyway.
Of course a few less, they could have a "50 shaders of black edition"
Any ideas what the max safe temperature is gonna be on these cpus (the desktop variants). Will it be higher than the pitifully low 61C on bulldozer!?
TBF IVB is only 67.4C Tcase...
I thought the TJ max on IVB was like 100C. Anyway this is thread is about piledriver so i won't derail it. I have an AM3+ with a tricore phenom II. I was gonna get a bulldozer when they came out but was put off by the fact that to get the best out of them you seem to need to O/C but yet the max safe temp is 61C so now I am holding out for piledriver.
I wasn't trying to be a troll btw :S
Tj max on IVB mobile processors is 105C, Tcase on desktop processors is 67.4C @ 77W (Tcase is lower for lower TDP processors). I can only assume this is to do with having an IHS, which AMD mobile processors have, but Intel ones (AFAIK) don't. But comparing like for like, the difference isn't that great.

Not clickable, so most of the URL is missing. Why doesn't it work as-is?
Got bored of waiting, and the llano 3870 is quite a bargain at the moment so my daughter now has one of those. Quite the step up from single core athlon 64 she had before
