The former CEO of SeaMicro talks about his relationship with AMD:

    Edit!!

Supposedly this popped up last month:

Posted by NostaSeronx on Anandtech forums. It seems to be about the mobile models.

AMD is probably using PCMark and 3DMark so the performance boost over Richland is looking like the Llano to Trinity one.

It will be interesting to see the performance boost over Trinity.

    Battery life does look improved.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Kaveri benchmark(single channel) against Core i5 2500K(dual channel):

    http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekb...aseline=223722
    http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardwar...0.htm#t8948140

So the 3.5GHZ to 3.7GHZ range seems to be the base clockspeeds for desktop Kaveri.

The slide in the previous post comes from the Russian arm of AMD:

    http://www.ospcon.ru/files/media/Perminov.pdf
    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0b9...RTWG9ZX00/edit

Some tidbits from shipping information for Kaveri:

    http://www.zauba.com/import-kaveri-hs-code.html

It seems the mobile chips are running at 1.8GHZ,so if this is true,IPC must be much better overall than Richland.

All the links came from SA forum members.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

    Interesting:

    http://wccftech.com/amd-kaveri-apu-s...ails-unveiled/

It could be a typo, but Kaveri having 8 threads??

This is mentioned in the comments section of the article:

    http://wccftech.com/wp-content/uploa...chitecture.jpg

If Kaveri does have the ability to run 8 threads, then it could explain why the 8 core Piledriver based Opterons are being replaced by it.

OTH,it could all be just a typo!

    Edit!!

It says 12 compute units,so is it 4 cores or 4 modules on the CPU side I wonder??

It's not the first time I've heard about SMT on Steamroller TBH, but I'm not sure what to make of it yet, it could be a propagated error. However, IIRC BD/PD's Int bottleneck tended to be with the front end rather than execution units, SMT could help, but then SR already improves the front end (e.g. 4-wide decode per core), so I wonder if it would be necessary?

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Even if Kaveri still is a 4 thread CPU,a 20% improvement in the CPU section and a 30% improvement in the IGP would be significant:

    http://techreport.com/review/24954/a...pus-reviewed/4

CPU performance in games, would be between a IB Core i3 and an FX6350,and IGP performance would be close to Iris Pro with fast RAM,if you look at the 65W TDP A10 6700 scores. Single thread performance would be close to an IB Core i3 in CB too,so it would mean a lot of pressure on the Haswell Core i3 CPUs IMHO.

The thing is the improvements are in a TDP limited environment too,so the desktop models could see even bigger improvements IMHO.

I can't find the link ATM but I recently saw a comparison someone ran and desktop Richland is already ahead of 'desktop' Iris Pro. We're just generally limited to seeing mobile comparisons by the big sites.

TR tested the IGPs at 1600X900 at low and medium settings. At higher resolution and settings,I suspect Iris Pro performance will start to become inconsistent.

I believe a more accurate answer would be "none - officially". It's amazing how many officially invalid combinations of things will work, though

A quick google hasn't turned up any threads where anyone's got it to work, mind you. If someone wants to give me a 5750 I could test it with my A6-3670k for you though

AMD should troll them and ask if they won't mind fabbing Jaguar on 22NM and 14MN??

What interests me is the fact they're claiming to be outsourcing fabbing of SoFIA 'in the interest of speed' - if Intel's fabs are ahead of the curve on every relevant metric including price, then why on Earth would this move make sense? It will take a not-insignificant effort to port the Atom cores to another fab for starters, there has to be some motive behind it!

I don't see why it would be out of the question for Intel to fab AMD CPUs, although that lingering WSA with GloFo is still a barrier for AMD. Wouldn't there be some legal barrier for Intel to announce open fabs but block competing companies? I suppose they could still manipulate pricing or something to discourage competitors though.

lol, well if Microsoft wanted the XBone silicon shrink down then they might get that through? It couldn't lead to a clock speed bump in a console so no chance of egg on face for Intel, just possible power & size reduction with the cooling and power brick knock on effects that could have. Stranger things have happened.

Now Nvidia's custom ARM chip on Intel process, that would take some sweet talking

If AMD are going to troll them, please make it an for an 8 core FM2+ chip. They might be able to squeeze enough transistors on there to manage it

If the SOC has analogue parts on it for the radio interface, then Intel's process may be unsuitable.
