    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

I can't seem to find this repeated elsewhere yet, but it's apparently quoted from AMD themselves: http://wccftech.com/breaking-amds-ge...zen-debut-k12/

Some snippets about the x86 K12 sister core, now 'confirmed' as Zen. The fact they mention it relative to Bulldozer is also somewhat reassuring IMO, implying it will be a 'big' core.

In other news, Centaur have restarted the flippin' timer: http://centtech.com/

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Just a random little titbit about that AMD talk. (This one: http://www.media-server.com/m/p/kebrnbpc)

I've seen one or two places quote pieces of it out of context, predictably of course; I've just listened to it and noticed they're conveniently leaving important bits out of their clickbait articles.

One example being about sticking with 28nm. He does mention sticking with that node where it makes sense because of good yield, cost, volume, etc. However the bit left out of the news articles (and repeated by others who seemingly can't be bothered to listen to it themselves) is the part where he mentions pushing cutting-edge nodes where it makes sense and explicitly references high-end GPU and client.

So in other words, certain websites are just making more negative news where there is none. As usual, these talks don't tend to reveal many solid details and sites like to grossly over-extrapolate to gain hits...

Just in case you came across them and wondered what the deal was...
OFC you can listen to it yourself to hear it first-hand. The bit about node is roughly around 19m in.

Seems that 25th announcement was the 285 India release...

However I've just spotted this, more about the (IMO reasonable) 384b Tonga speculation: http://videocardz.com/52834/full-amd...mory-interface

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

According to this the R9 390X will be launched in the next six months, but the R9 380X will be released in February and be 20NM:

    https://translate.google.com/transla...e_GTX_970.html
    https://translate.google.com/transla...%2F&edit-text=

Second link says their APUs will get the improved tessellation engine in Tonga and the texture compression technology too. The latter could actually be significant in that area IMHO,since bandwidth limitations are very apparent for IGPs.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Yep!! If AMD does launch the R9 380X on 20NM,will that mean Nvidia is now doomed?? Supposedly according to many reviews and forums AMD is doomed because of the GTX970 and GTX980!!

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

It's just the usual leapfrogging really, though we've not seen it quite as regularly the past few years.

I agree some of the GCN '1.2' additions could prove really interesting on the IGP parts.

If i had a pound for every time I had heard that AMD/ATI were doomed then I could afford a new NVidia graphics card

Well the new Centaur website is finally up: http://www.centtech.com/

I don't see anything relating to the new processor core though.
