HL2 you can buy on Steam, and you get the mods (add-ons with it).

It was the main reason I suggested HL2 to you - you get lots of other games free with it

some mods are free, some you pay for. RO, DoD-s, etc are paid for. If you look on the steam site you will see the options that you can buy, for starters I would get DoD-s. CS-S, RO. It might be cheaperto get a package rather than indevidual. Also worth checking the price of the in shop version, when I got Hl2 etc the box set was on offer.

You can get HL2 with its main mods (CS:S, DoD:S etc) in a package for a cheapish price off Steam (www.steampowered.com) and worth getting... even if you dont like those there are countless other free mod's out there once you get HL2!

I didnt like Red Orc, tried it on 2 of the free weekend things and just really couldnt get into it and quickly went back to DoD:s

I love Day of Defeat: Source. It has changed a lot since the original mod days, but on the source engine it is very good. I would buy HL2, as others have stated, with DOD:S. You have access to many online mods, and you can play DOD, HL:2 deathmatch, and CS. I like the fact that via Steam, Valve keep updating the Source engine (lets not start arguments about Steam here though...).

I love BF2, although it is flawed, has lots of bugs, and needs a decent rig with lots of RAM to run it. BF2142 is good as well.

COD1/2 are great games, I didn't really get much out of COD2 multiplayer, COD1 MP was much more fun.

ooh yeah, I second that - forgot about UT2k4. Excellent game, and you don't need a super-rig to run it.

cod: uo was my fave ever online experience.

    dod:s is also great fun

at the moment im quite obsessed by cs with the gun game mod, makes the game a lot more fun

i truly just dont get battlefield 2, i enjoyed 1942, but with 2 it just left me cold, just bought arma:armed assault and that leaves me with the same sensation... so off to fleabay with it while its still worth something...

ps. SOF II is still fun online and has a surpising amount of players

I gotta vote for ArmA: Armed Assault.

In a couple of patches' time it will be the perfect large-scale realistic fps.
