Half Life 2 2006 Holiday Collection

Looking to pick this collection up but does it contain Counter Strike Source. On Steam it is bundled in but I want to buy it hard copy so went into game and they said it's not on there. With some many Half Life packages out there is there one that I can buy hard copy that has Half Life Source, Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode One and Counterstrike source?

why do you want a hard copy? if its to save downloading each time, you can burn all the .GCF files to a DVD and then copy them across if you need to re-install

You'll have a load of updates each time anyway. Probably easier to just download it, then burn to disk for the next time.

Re: Half Life 2 2006 Holiday Collection

Amazon have it for £25 if you really want to buy a hard copy. I dont see a mention of exactly what games you get with it on there but the picture says 'Holiday 2006 Collection'.

Edit: One of the reviews says that only HL2 is on the disk - you'll have to download the others anyway. I dont think you have to download games all at once so you could play HL2 for starters and download chunks of the others in the background whenever you're on the PC.

Yeah game has the holiday collection but no counterstrike on it. I have broadband but the only problem is the download limit, meant to be unlimited but have been cut off a few times already for going over the unlimited barrier. Dont want to get cut off for another month

Re: Half Life 2 2006 Holiday Collection

Hm, I always thought that CS:Source came with Half Life 2, but ii doesnt look like they include it in this pack. Oddly there seemed to be a different version of this pack on the US Amazon, which did show CS:S on the front cover.

If you cant find a pack that has everything you want, and you aren't to worried about HL:Source, then it might be worth waiting for 'The Orange Box' in October. That will have HL2, HL2:ep1, HL2:ep2, Portal & Team Fortress 2. Again that still seems to leave you without CS:Source tho.

who are you with? what is the limit? try doing it 'off peak' ie overnight - 11pm to 7am type thing.. or just in a few chunks...

Or ask someone nicely and they can whack the .gcf files on a dvd and post them to you

With AOL at the moment had alot of problems with the 'limit' I do know someone who has all the games. Can they back them up to DVD then I load them on my machine? Obviously I will pay for them on steam to get the access code yeah?

    yep.

as long as the games are in your steam account, just get ahold of the .gcf (steam cache) files from anywhere, and copy them to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\ - then load steam. it'll pick up on the files being there, finish any updating, and all sorted.

Great I think I shall do that then. I take it if I purchase the holiday collection off Steam and he is missing one of these games it will just d/l it for me?

I'm with them to and I'm ok, I download a lot and no speed restrictions, it wont take that long to download it of steam, hell I've done it a fair few times

CSS should come with HL2 but to be honest I've had more fun playing Capture the flag, source forts (mods) on HL2 DM
