    Beware of the XBOX (original)

I am a proud owner of a Gamecube but i HATE the XBOX not because its a more powerful console than the Gamecube but because it is gaining a troublesome habit of inferiorlising games that were initially being solely developed for the PC and foolishly being co-developed for the xbox.

    Victims of the XBOX are:-

    VICTIM Why its inferior

Halo No co-operative mode on release day, shamelessly small texture sizes, dodgy FPS to PC specs ratio.

Deus Ex2 Low poly, linear, over-simplified gameplay, more FPS than RPG, small textures, dodgy FPS to PC specs ratio, too short, inconsistant AI.

i am now fearing for the quality of previously PC only games such as Doom3, half-life2, far cry, S.T.A.L.K.E.R and thief3, i fear that they won't go the same way as halo and deus ex2.

thats why you beware of the XBOX (GAME THIEF)

Get an xbox, go on you know you wanna!

DeusEx2 was a victim of its own success and has nothing to do with the xbox, it was commented that the original was long and hard (ooh err mrs)
so it was to be dumbed down for mass market, nowt to do with xbox either.

Halo was no co-developed, it was ported from the xbox version.

Which is why it sucks on PC, if they had co-developed it, it might be a little better.

Halo for PC was ported by a bunch of half-life mappers, fired by Valve from the CSCZ project for being incompetent inbred half-wits

"Basically, developing a single game for PC and console meant designing maps to meet the more restrictive platform -- that is to say, the Xbox. Powerful a piece of hardware as it is, the Xbox has only 64megs of RAM, putting some significant constraints on map size, most notably, which means the PC version probably has more map loads than it might if we hadn't concerned ourselves with the Xbox (or if we'd been willing to create, tune and debug two radically different games)."
    Warren Spector

'Nuff said. The entire game was designed for the Xbox, and they simply never bothered to redesign it for PC - as evinced by the shoddy graphics, tiny levels, totally linear gameplay, frequent maploads, ridiculous ammo system, horrible HUD and inventory, and the way it performs like dog poo on anything other than nVidia hardware.

Ah right, I knew what they'd done, but not where they were from.

Still, to be fair they're knocked out more than valve have done over the last couple of years, even if it is mostly thanks to valve.

Well i know why Beany overthere was spluttering blood about Halo, i found on one of the old cover disks a 10min long movie of Halo from 99 when it was still mean't for pc, BEFORE it had been bought by Microsoft. It looked amazing and a fair bit different to the incarnation we recieved, in the movie there was native animals, some dinosaur things and other ugly animals which inhabited the halo ring world, also some amazing out door scenes which we never recieved. Also the story seemed didfferent, and considering this was 99 it looked to be running damn fine, a damn bit finer than on my prob *newer* pc in comparison to the one they were running it on bk then...... Damn the X Box......(and perhaps Microsoft, but i let them go for XP...*or should i*)

I also have fears for Thief 3, but more so beacuse it is not being made by Looking Glass since they went out of business

I have an Xbox AND a Gamecube. Both good machines in their own right (games etc) but the Xbox is a better overall machine due to hdd, dvd, online etc.

simple reason that games take precedence on consoles is that there's a market for it. the pc games market is a fraction of the size of the console games market, and even then only a few people buy the games rather than pirating them. supporting pc users is nightmarish ("my game doesn't work on my system" problems don't exist with consoles). there really is 0 incentive for games publishers to focus on PC when they could make more money & have lower costs focusing on xbox, gamecube or ps2.

and in the process making a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbisher game...XBOX is the bane of quality, good looking, nice performing, open-ended games.

Amen. I still haven't figured out why people buy FIFA. I guess they think "The last one sucked but EA have said that the new version is revolutionary....".
