My new 512kb connection - online gaming

Yesterday I got a 512kb/s service connected to my PC. Went with Freeserve in the end, and have connected at 542kb/s.

I have black hawk down, and played a little online with it. Brilliant.

My average ping was 250ms. Is this good?

So what online games would you recommend? I understand BF1942 is good.

If i buy a game such as BF1942, do I have to pay montlhy subscriptions to the servers or is that specifically for mmorpg?

Other games I own are Wolfenstien and MOH. Are these good for online play?

    cheers chaps,

    Paul

PS, in case you can't tell I really like FPSs, or alternativly, strategy shooters, such as Ghosat Recon.

if your ping time is 250ms on broadband you have serious problems, mine to low hop servers (stuff thats close to my isps servers), is usually around 20ms

Where you downloading anything at the time? What servers where u playing on, UK?

Ahh good point, I was playing on Novalogics servers, and I think they were based in USA.

Maybe I will try out uk based servers.

Download the UT2004 demo only 200megs and play that. You should list the servers in order if ping, ones with a ping of 30 to 100 are the ones you want to connect to.

Novalogic have introduced official servers for the UK, there are about 6 I think...The ping is usually 40-100. But with DF BHD, even at pings of 200+ it doesnt feel like it lags...
