Street fighter has had literally hundreds of different re-incarnations... i agree with Russ.
Midway Arcade Treasures is a bargain at 19.99 (or 2 for £30). We always put it on in the store when the stupid little townies are in making a mess. They don't appreciate classic gaming and shortly leave.... bwahaha..

NOTHING TO BE SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG PLEASE....
:: of all the things i've lost i miss my mind the most ::
It has had a lot of incarnations, and the best was one of the first - Street Fighter II Turbo, on the arcade \ SNES. Since then, they have tried, and failed to improve on that classic.
SEGA SATURN
I stil have one...and more important it still gets played...monthly.
There is only one Tomb Raider one....its Sega Saturn...cos the controller is vastly better than the PS1/2 which has too many shoulder buttons and not enough top-side buttons.
BUT...the true master of Sega Saturn....the finest single and multiplayer game on any platform....its best on Saturn....
BOMBER MAN.
DO NOT HESITATE....get Saturn Bomber Man...its perfection.
As for other older consoles.....frankly Dream Cast owns the world.
Metropolis Street Racer (MSR) is just the finest, if hardest. It is not as good as GT3 on PS2 but far out weights GT1 and 2. And you HAVE to be good. No hitting people.
Shen Mui, is the largest damn game Ihave ever got lost in
Demolition Racer..looks standard fare and then suddenly you are in the midst of a fantastic driving game
Crazy Taxi....
18 wheeler....I am in the minority here but it is worth a look...I love parking and racing 18 wheelers
Thats just a few....and they are SO CHEAP...and the controler has proper "squeeze" throttle and braking
So I whole heartedly agree on the "modern games are mainly pap"
The entire game industry must now take a back seat.....
what does that mean? Well....it means that they must provide a "gaming engine" but only multi player.....and then let the online community play it together.....
there lies the future.
Of course I mean similar to the IL-2 Forgotten Battles commnunity.....the single player game is.....nearly worthless.
But the flight engine, the imagery, and the life like flight models.....they bring WW2 into the livingroom...and after that ..step back and watch the war!
Imagine if Need For Speed had no single player mode....simply a set of maps...
and a place online to meet and race....
then it would JUST be up tot he online world to judge it and then "live it"
Its the way forward

The DC is the arcade, the games are the machines stuffed full of credits.
i think that there are fewer quality games being produced
i had the atari when i was young - that was a great machine but the nes or sned has probably had the best games slection - megadrive was alright as well
ive still got my saturn and dreamcast,n64,snes,nes,cube - my mates even worse hes got a jaguar, neo geo and more
Vaul is completey right though and i dont want anyone denying it - streetfighter 2 turbo on the snes is arguably one of the best games ever made (i actually found a streetfighter 2 cd with all the tunes on it the other day - if anyone wants a copy let me know )

there are loads more good dc games than that - Capcom vs. SNK, jet set radio, Crazy Taxi, Dead or Alive 2, street fighter alpha, Virtua Fighter 3tb not to mention all the great seag sports games that were only released on this systemOriginally Posted by directhex
the dream cast was actually a very good machine - it was just marketed terribly by sega
TeckForums - UK Teck Community
the marketing wasn't top notch, it was mostly bribery by sony - retail stores made a considerable profit per unit on dreamcast sales (about £40), but due to underhand deals by sony staff in high street stores were under order to downplay the dreamcast & hype the forthcoming playstation 2, knowing full well profit was in the single figures
Thats why I looking forward to this version
It is the old Arcade, SNES and Mega Drive versions.Based on the acclaimed 'Street Fighter II Turbo' system, Hyper Street Fighter II features all the different versions of each character ever to appear in a Street Fighter II title and places them in one game. This perfect reproduction of the legendary fighting game will appeal not only to those who experienced the huge phenomenon that was 2D beat 'em ups during the late 1980s and 1990s, but also young players who have never played Street Fighter II before.
I forgot to mention this Relic are doing the Warhammer 40k game and for the look at the screen shots it's the game most Warhammer fans have been waiting for : http://www.relic.com/product/dawnofwar/index.php
More Screen shots here http://pc.ign.com/articles/498/498701p1.html?fromint=1
I know it not everyones cup of tea but if the screenshots are anything to go by...
IMO the Dreamcast is the greatest console ever in terms of the number of brilliant games released for it. Most of my favourites have been mentioned already but I want to give a little love to Space Channel 5 and Marvel vs Capcom. SC5 has the most brilliant intro and first level I've ever seen, and MvC, although only an arcade conversion, and a refinement of all the Vs games that went before, is the pinnacle of high speed fighting lunacy. It's madness gone mad! I still break out in a mile wide grin as soon as the splash screen hits in a blast of colour and noise. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is graphically much better (being a proper Naomi game rather than CPS2) but I don't like the gameplay as much, losing the 6 button control system was a mistake IMO.
The DC arcade controller is probably the finest controller ever made, which helps.
Finally Bunji, if you haven't done the 50/60Hz switch mod on your Saturn yet, you should- it's easy (assuming you can use a soldering iron) and games like MSH will run properly, at full speed and full screen. Get a memory cart for it too, if you can, and you can enable a mode which puts extra animations into the character moves for a smoother look. Once you've done that and are hooked, the region mod is fairly simple too and means you can play all the brilliant games which only the Japanese were supposed to get.
Good freaking luck finding an affordable copy of Radiant Silvergun though! Glad I got mine when I did.

On a different note guys, R-Type is about to be redone and it'll be available on PC.
YAY!
Also, Syndicate is being remade, w00000t!
word appears rife that EA are doing a remake of Goldeneye. curiously, they're doing it themselves rather than getting Free Radical Design (most of whom worked on the original Goldeneye) to do it, even though they publish FRD games.
not many places are reporting on Syndicate being worked on though, most suggesting that spong are getting it wrong. a desert strike sequel is a cert though (yay :|)
keep your eyes open on the 24th of March. The new R-Type is out on the PS2. If you were a fan of your 2d scrolling space shoot em up's then this game is for you. For years I have waited for a decent 2d scroller to appear and it seemed as if the 2d era had vanished for good, but R-Type sneaks out and brings back the good old days of gaming it has a 3d feel to it but its still essentially a 2d scroller
but i am agreed on this, the games industry is going for effects and graphics, whereas the retro games were all based on playability, this is what todays games need, a decent story and atleast some form of playability insteadof half assed controls and dodgy camera's that turn that new game into an over priced beer mat.
to be perfectly honest, I could sit there for days playing the likes of robotron and defender whereas i would maybe spend a few hours on the pap thats comming out today.
