Just thinking of some random games that were either under rated, or a bit obscure, or whatever.

Alex Kidd In Miracle World.
Not many better 8bit platformers. And none that don't have a plumber with a red hat on in them. Great game.

Eternal Darkness: Sanities Requiem.
Sorta Resident Evil but different. Much fun playing this. And speaking of Resident Evil...

Resident Evil!
Is this series under rated? Remember the first time the dogs jumped through the window on the PS version? And right up to Resident Evil 4 which is brilliant. And 5 looks great too. How many other series of games have been that good for that long?

I'll add more as they come to me.

Most of my favourite games are either generally popular or generally very hated. I can't really think of any off the top of my head that might be under rated and not well known.

I enjoyed Destroy All Humans but I put it down for a while then when I went back to it I stupidly overwrote my old save file and couldn't be bothered going through it all again. It seemed like a new concept, being an alien trying to take over the world rather than the other way around.

Jagged Alliance 2, one of the most perfect examples of turn based strategy I've had the fortune to play. Odd that PC Gamer gave it 74% when it was released (many moons ago), as there is still a (small) amount of active modders for it!

Well on such an intelligent place like Hexus I'm sure my usual obscure favourites are actually quite well loved: Beyond Good and Evil, Space Rangers (2), Planescape:Torment, Wing Commander series/privateer/strike commander/Ultima series etc. I still have an old 486 set aside to play the oldies

the dogs through the window in resident evil is the one thing i think of when resident evil is mentioned. The only thing that annoys me with the series is the aiming and general movement. It was mostly fixed in 4 though and i hope to find an improvement again in number 5.

Dead space seems a bit under rated to me from what i have played. Not very far in but its a very good experience so far.

I had that on the BBC-B when I were a nipper, I should try and dig it out for the nephew get him started on it.

Dizzy (Treasure Island Dizzy/Quick Snax etc...)
Ghost's 'n' Goblins / Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
'XeXeX' (a shoot-em-up in the arcade I used to like)
Baton Kaitos on the GC (FF style RPG with a card based attack system)
