CoD 4 or CoD 5 (PC)

I've not played any CoD games before (I have the idea that they are the realistic kind of FPS, which may not be my thing), but I thought that I should give it a shot. CoD 5 is newer, seem to get pretty decent reviews, but not quite as good as CoD 4. Is it worth starting off with CoD 4?

Re: CoD 4 or CoD 5 (PC)

Plenty of people are still playing CoD 4 and I think they will be until 6 is out later this year.

Do you want a modern or WW2 shooter? CoD 4 is the better of the 2 games and that's coming from someone who prefers WW2 shooters. You would be able to pick 4 up cheaply to give it a try.

Re: CoD 4 or CoD 5 (PC)

CoD4 is a great SP and MP game. If you're going for SP try CoD4 out. CoD5 is more like an updated version of CoD2 in the MP side. SP side it's different and exciting on some of the missions. Haven't finished it fully but so far there's only been 1 "cool" mission like CoD4 had.

I've got CoD5 and I like it, I haven't really played 4 indepth though. CoD4 you can pick up pretty cheap now, I think Play has it on for £15.

4 is better than 5 and well worth getting.

I like them both, but prefer CoD 4.
If you've never played on CoD before then I suggest CoD 4, it's better (imo) in Sp and Mp, and its cheaper.

i think you should buy cod 4 out of principle as cod 5 isn't worth the full price they slapped on it as it's an expansion pack!

they are both good - neither one is really better, it just depends if you prefer ww2 or modern warfare.

No it doesn't. I prefer WW2 by a mile but 4 was a much better game.
Partly down to the the fact that the different squads you went with in 4 were still fighting the same enemy in the same region which ment they could have a decent story line flowing well through the game.
In 5 when they are different theaters of war with quite few missions for each it didn't provide any real storyline. just an all action FPS.

Re: CoD 4 or CoD 5 (PC)

I think the SP of CoD4 is amazing although haven't played CoD5 SP.

MP however.... i've played quite a bit of MP on my friends comp and it's starting to grow on me. I never liked CoD4 mp, they seemed to take away the semi-slow paced-ness of the SP and made it almost just a rush fest.

Personally i'm not a WW2 game fan which is why i shyed away from CoD5 during release (and still haven't bought it) however the use of bolt action rifles and semi-auto rifles in MP imo balances the game out rather well. On CoD4 MP there's your general weapons do just seem to be the normal SMGs and Assault Rifles which are all automatic fire and makes the game faster paced.

I'd still say CoD4 is the better game overall just because the SP *is* a work of art.

Re: CoD 4 or CoD 5 (PC)

CoD 4 for SP is far superior. It has a much better feel to it. I'm getting hacked off with CoD 5 for getting stuck on pixels and the ability to kill people with a submachine gun at 300 yards.

Agreed, Call of Duty 4 is a much more satisfying game and well worth many play throughs.
I love WW2 shooters but Call of Duty 5 just doesn't do the genre any justice.

I still think Call of Duty 2 is the best SP but that's just me

I hear that...COD5 is getting quite annoying like that. I also find the difficulty of different missions seems to vary madly (I'm playing on the one down from hardest level). But the weapons are mad - the Russian ppppppppppppppppsh can take out enemy soldiers as if you were using a sniper rifle.
COd5 SP doesn't flow like COD4 SP does, and has a distinctly "console" feel to it - its hard to define, but something about it.
Most of the missions are "meh", with a few great ones, and some plain filler missions - whats the Russian tank level about? ooh, need to have a tank mission!

Still, over-all I'm quite enjoying it - I didn't have high expectations so I'm not disappointed. It feels like COD4 does COD1 or2.

Personally, if you HAD to make a choice between 4 or 5, and you're not bothered about "military era" then go with COD4 - its the better game imho.
