    Dragon Age: Origins

Anyone else excited about Bioware's newest, out Tuesday 3rd? I'm going to get PC Gamer tomorrow for the review (apparently got 94% in UK), although by the few that are up already it's pretty damn fine.

I'm interested to see how the voice acting and characterisation stands up. I thought it came across as quite cheesy in some of the trailers - the token 'sarcastic' character was pretty grating. Although from the gameplay footage, I'm probably more excited about this than Modern Warfare 2!

    DL the character creator ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I really like the look of this... thinking of getting the digital deluxe edition from steam, £39.99! a lot for a PC game but it might be worth it? Opinions?

I have, but it's not exactly the game, is it? There's only so long you can spend grooming a virtual doll.

Personally I'm a little weary of the whole 'pre-order and get in-game items' thing. They might be handy at the start of the game, but there must be far more powerful items further in, otherwise it would completely unbalance the game's progression. If you think the in-game ring, armour and the Warden's Keep DLC is worth the extra tenner, then go for it! I don't think I will - I might get the Warden's Keep DLC if it proves to be worthwhile, but I have very little interest in the bonus achievements or items.

EDIT: Oh, and the Stone Prisoner too!

I've got the CE on pre-order for the 360. Really looking forward to playing it. There are just to many games coming out at the moment though and I don't think I will but a lot of time into until some time early next year. Saying that, I will prolly end up being addicted to it

The PC Gamer review isn't actually all that informative. The issue is a bit of an EA love-in so it's hard to take very seriously. It's the kind of review that will make you feel good if you've already pre-ordered the game, but it never really explains anything about why DA:O is so good. Oh and avoid reading the little diagram with the taint puns - it contains quite a lore spoiler (though it's something that you may well learn early in the game, I don't know).

I think the voice acting will be absolutely fine when it's in context. Characterisation.. will probably be a mixed bag, as usual. Hopefully some characters will have some subtlies to them, but while Bioware tend to come up with good background stories and motivations for NPCs, they're not usually the most subtle (for this reason Ashley was actually my favourite NPC in Mass Effect for instance, while everyone else hated her ).

Quite. It's a bit like the similar items for Dawn of War 2 - they're nice little things, with a bit of history to go with them, but they're obviously not going to be game breaking. The difficulty of the game is said to be quite variable though, with some bits easy and some battles really hard, but that was the same in older games like Baldurs Gate as well.

PS it's out on friday 6th, not tuesday 3rd.

Oh my god yes, I've pre-ordered the Collectors Edition from Game (Exclusive, that) and I'll go pick it up on Friday. Seems that different digital versions have diffferent in-game items - the CE will have it all.

From movies I'm gonna love this - violence, shagging, lovely gfx - they can't go wrong with this!

I'll be picking up a copy this coming Friday. I didn't pre-order or anything like that, I would have done but wasn't sure of the state of play considering the postal strikes...

True, but switch it on in the morning before I leave for work and it'll most likely be there by the time I get back from work (I get roughly 1MB/s from an 20Mb O2 pipe).

Thanks for the heads up on the review! And yeah, I was mistakenly looking at the US release date. Friday's quite handy actually, since it's also PAYDAY

Looking forward to playing around with the toolkit, too.
