anyone getting this today and has a good bash at it - throw up a little review: im trying to hold back as its too close to MW but if its THAT good ill get it after work
XBOX: BauerPrime
I'll give it a go (see previous first impressions I did for The Witcher and Oblivion). But you have to bear in mind I'm not a neutral journo - I think I will like the game hence why I pre-ordered, so if it's as I expect then it'll probably be positive. The other thing is how do you get a feel for a 90+ hour game after just a couple of hours? I attempted to do it for Fallout 3 and failed miserably (it was great, I just couldn't put it in words until ages after the game had come out).
I've played it on my laptop (1024x600 Res, High Textures and detail settings), really enjoyable game. I'm up to a bit where a Demon sends you to another plane type thing where you have to gain abilities to move around, I can morph into a mouse and flaming dead presently. Its in the mages tower after helping out the village that is being attacked and trying to rescue the kid.
I havn't really used the tactical side of things and using space to pause, also havn't really used the top view. Pathfinding is pretty decent and shouldn't cause to many problems as areas arn't overly big enough to confuse.
Still yet to get the DLC for it, such a mess about. Will leave it for the time being and grab it when they get the current Bioware / EA issues sorted out.
All in all though its a great game, surprised that it runs as well as it does on my laptop (Re to other thread there - Will it run on my laptop). Only thing that can be a little out of place occasionally is the amount of blood, at times it can be comical seeing your party covered when there is a serious coversation going on. But its a minor thing.
For people starting out, when you go into the forest you will get 2 quests from corpses in the forms of a letter and finding something, make sure you do them there and then or you will lose them alltogether and wont be able to complete them as you can't go back after the big battle.
I,m about 6 hours in, just past the first village.
The game is beautifully crafted, the storyline is excellent, a little LOTR feeling, but none the less its involving.
I am a Human mage, and wish to god I had chosen something else, it pretty much sux ass. I am tempted to start again as a warrior..
Fiddly controls, and friendly fire is bloody awful.
Gonna make the big booby girl fall in love with me
Oh yeah, forgot about that! But the bit I am talking about is when you get to the Grey Wardens, I thought it was just the very starting area which was class specific. Another little tip, save the Dog that is in the Kennels by doing the required quests while in the forest. He comes back to you as a War Dog and can do well in some of the bigger battles.
I am a Dwarven warrior and my starting area was the underground city Orzomar. But when I left there you meet the King with Duncan. I thought from this point it was the same for all races and classes.
Can we try to avoid ANY spoilers, please?
No spoilers in that post at all. Havn't said anything about the meet, the wardens or how you actually get there or why you are there.
The dog quest i mentioned is easy to actually miss hence why i said make sure you do it. Dog also comes back at an unexpected time, so once again no spoilers there.
First impression:
Lost me with that one Kalniel, whats the pic saying? Its big???!
The hands! Look at the character models, they've all got enormous hands
