You got to wonder what has changed and in all honesty I think it's pressure from Activision, it's total speculation on my part but these kind of changes are exactly the kind of short term, control freak business 'sense' that the bean counters push. You can just imagine the accountants and managerial types throwing a hissy fit that the developer sees fit to allow people to mod the game without charging them extra in DLC or allowing them to set the rules on their own servers, such things stand go against everything these people learnt in business school. They of course overlook the unseen added value these communities and modders give to their product and the role they play in grass roots marketing and brand awareness.

I imagine many at Infinity Ward must be somewhat embarrassed by all this nonsense, after all they are more than likely PC gamers themselves and know exactly how important dedicated servers and the communities that spring up round them are.

With a bit of luck we might see a split from Infinity Ward in the same way they split from EA after Medal of Honour.
Well I think this all started to happen ever since Activision joined with Blizzard. I think the people in the board room just see the amount of money they can make by giving the most bare minimum of a product, hence the massive mark-up price of MW2.

Check this article out on the Activision Blizzard CEO: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...emoves-fun.ars

I think that just sums up the "geniuses" telling IW what to do. It seems similar to what they are doing to Starcraft 2 with that having battle.net (why all the .net's?) and having no LAN support. They are just in it for the money and until their pockets start running dry they'll keep doing the same thing.

Well thanks to everyone - I have cancelled my pre-order of MW2.
Battlefield may be the winner out of this.

Re: MW2 - IW Developer Chat Last Night

I have been looking for a replacement for HL and QWET for sometime now. It's got to the point where I'll give any promising game a go, but MW2 looks like it's not a good investment.

History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.
"The less you eat, drink and buy books; the less you go to the theatre, the dance hall, the public house; the less you think, love, theorise, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save – the greater becomes your treasure which neither moths nor rust will devour – your capital. The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being." Karl Marx

Yup - I've ordered the PC version and would be glad to play online with another Hexite. I expect it will be based on Steam friends list where my user is the same as here - GheeTsar

I am in the Hexus group on Steam as GreyMata from memory. I might show as Grey M@a I will have to check it again.

From memory it has co-op doesn't it?

Just hope the PC is good enough to handle the game as all the specs I have seen at present are for the minimum specs.

Yup - the Spec Ops missions are all co-op and I'm pretty sure your PC (which is pretty much the same power as mine) should be fine running it seeing as it's based on COD4's engine which runs nicely on my machine. I'm more concerned about my internet capability - I only get about 2meg down and 0.5meg up at the moment.

I could host as I have the 20mb Virgin line. So 20mb down but the upload is 768kbps from memory. Launch night would be perfect to as I will be in for the night from about 8pm onwards.

CoD4 works fine on my PC so hopefully MW2 works

Mind this is all based on the Steam unlock files downloading with any form of a decent speed as the numbers of PC orders is unknown with all the cancellations etc. Steam are generally good but the last week or two the speeds for their downloads are low as hell.

Re: MW2 - IW Developer Chat Last Night

Did you guys see that if anyone gets a 25 kill streak, get the tactical nuke then launches it....

It ends the game, regardless of timelimit, score limit etc and the player who launches it, his team wins ?!

Also if youre buying the 360 version there is no party chat option, you can only voice chat to the people on your team.

Sounds like a plan although, like you, I think launch night could be carnage in terms of the beating IW.net will be getting as well as Steam. I'll certainly be trying to get it working then so all being well so I'll look for you online.
