    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

Had a quick bash earlier, took ages to get in (put it this way I had time to put my 2 year old to bed and when I came back it was just about loading the level up!) but I quite enjoyed it. It's pretty fast paced, which is fine for deathmatch I suppose, but I'd like a slower paced mode to add to the tension. Deathmatch is fairly well balanced with no one species having the upper hand, though the Marine probably has the toughest time of all three.

Despite it being beta code I'm willing to give it a punt.

i got the steam update early evening and actually managed to get into a game with Ciber.

Looks good game spent alot of time running around as there were only 4 of us.Hopefully it will be alot easier when released especially if its dedicated servers.

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

This is normal deathmatch right? And not Species deathmatch?

When i played it yesterday morning i think people were unsure of whether or not it was All vs. All, one game i was an Alien and other Aliens ignored me whilst another game i had "fellow" Aliens trying (and generally succeeding) to claw my face off.

I think the melee needs a bit of tweaking since the grab seems slightly overpowered? Sometimes i'll be grabbed from one side of the room when against a predator (although it could be a lag issue).

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

Finally managed to get a game late last night. Think I was waiting close to an hour

First impressions were good. It ran well which is always a good start and I enjoyed trying out all three classes (for want of a better word).

With the Predator and Alien I didn't really have a clue to be honest, so got it handed to me pretty badly. When I picked the marine though.. wow good fun.

Downloaded very slowly last night and then I couldn't log into any games. No idea why, it just sat there waiting...

    Not impressed.

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

I'm finding the demo to be ok so far, seems like the alien is the toughest class to play and a little disorientating for me.

But it's a bit frustrating with the auto aim in melee combat and I hope it's not in the retail version of the game because I've read somewhere that the demo is the e3 2009 console build of the game.

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

just had a match with 2 aliens, 2 marines and me as the predator.
for the first couple of minutes, i was running around randomly stabbing at things with wrist blades and getting killed by aliens. then i remembered i had a cloak, so after cloaking i got 2 marine kills with the blades. after a while i found the plasma caster weapon lying around and got 1 alien kill (then the other alien killed me). 2 minutes later i found the remote bomb thing and got another kill.

result. alien1 20, alien2 5, marines 5 each, me 4. there was some laughing over voice comms mainly directed at me.

    ill have another go later.

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

I had initial problems finding a game when the demo first came out but played last night and connected straight away with no problems. I do get some weird bug though where it makes everyones microphone transmit in the lobby, its very annoying.

    Impressions so far:
Marines work like a normal FPS, although they have mapped the default keys strangely (Q for run?). Shotgun weapon seems very underpowered. When you get hit by a Predator or Alien you can't do anything and then they pull off their finishing moves which is annoying.

Aliens are very hard to get used to. Just transitioning from wall to celling ect is very disorientating and takes getting used to.

Predator is easily the coolest class, took me a while to realise you need to pick up his extra weapons. When your power gets low you need to charge up at some wall socket things and this leaves you open for such a long time. But it is sooooo much fun stalking someone while cloaked and then pulling his spine out using his head. Epic stuff.

Overall I enjoyed it and am looking forward to trying the other modes in the full game.

    Re: AvP Demo on Steam

Seems to me disc v everything else = death for everything else, bearing in mind it kills a marine in 1 hit yet it takes several rounds to bring down a pred even a pulse rifle nade won't bring one down.
