overwatch works well at times, but could be more usefull. u activate it by right clicking on the unit upgrad instead of left clicking. it'll then flash on off to let u know its working. When the upgrade is full it stops. It dosnt work if it can only build 1 thing and so is excelent for creating squads, hitting 'overwatch' on troops and guns and then leaving them to run to ur frount lines.

never had any problems with the zoom really, make sure u have 'full 3d-rendering' on to really be able to move the camera to worthwhile views.

as to the balence of troops the nearest i think it comes to is the eldar, who are just specialised to deal with the threats. but it still comes down to building as much as poss and if u build the wrong things then just delete em to get the right thing

To a degree you do have to think about your units. If you want terminators then you have to sacrifice other units to be able to afford them. Though once you have a couple of squads of them and lead them with the force commander and the inquisitor they can chop up just about anything in front of them. Add a dreadnought with autocannon and a helfire dreadnought with lascannons for kicks and giggles and you can say goodbye to anything that is daft enough to get in the way.

Prior to the ability to build termies then it's a bit more of a thought process behind building and equipping your squads. Assualt marines make good hit and run tank busters but they suffer from ranged specialists such as the eldar. And suffer from the Eldar close up specialists too. I tend to keep them back until battle is joined and then jump them over the top of the melee to assault from the rear.

I too got a bit disgruntled with the bottlenecks caused by the vehicles in the game. having carefully set up my assault to have it wrecked by a dreadnaught worried about scratching his paint on a passing space marine's bolter and steadfastly refusing to go 'at last back to war'.

Other than that I have to say it is a thoroughly addictive game. Though it was not exactly a hollywood classic, the cut scenes gave the game a nice ongoing storyline and also some affinity with the characters in the game. A bit of internal politicking and a feel for the different races.

If they can iron out the 'bottleneck' bug and also get the dreadnoughts to do as they are told instead of rushing off to engage everything at will then it will be a much better game.

'Oi Dread, I told you to stay in that shell crater and watch my back. not bugger off and take on the Eldar army on your own'

    Elder are my favourite..
They are just so pansyish, when you crush teh AI it makes you feel like you've actually achieved something...
Or you just throw a squad of the seeer (SP) council people in with any other units and watch them shred em up

Ohh Apex, where is Phoenix Rising out of? Would it be Kings of Chaos by any chance?

I find the bloody Seer council conceal thing annoying, they dont take any damage from range so you pretty much cant kill them unless you have 5 dreds or a crap load of orks to melee with them.

I have been playing a bit of SP, but I think this game is best in multiplayer, the armies seem well balanced and so far I have had some great games.

They're going to nerf the seer council, they've said so publicly. If you look at the stats on the webpage, it lists how often each race wins a game. The difference between the best and worst is only 5% at most, so the game is already well balanced. I know they need to make some changes, I just hope they dont overdo it.
