I heard that RC's were going to vivendi a few weeks back...
I never trust any news on HL2 anymore, but most of it must be finished if they are doing the pre-loads.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
no - it's been confirmed and verified... would be awesome if it was an october release... will give me a particularly BAD excuse for not finding a job!
it depends on vu now , but if they reject it they could go the way acclaim did

Nah, I've only recently started a 3 month contract, so I insist Valve hold it back until mid-December. Couldn't stand the thought of you at home playing it while I'm at work! :-)Originally Posted by scottyman

Yeah, its been confirmed, by Gabe himself.
We know its coming now, but the point is, is it good enough to not only justify the massive hype, but also make up for the fact that it was supposed to be released in 1894 at the 6th annual Victorian Wonders and Oddities of the Modern World festival at Crystal Palace?
It better be good; it better be better than good, it better be better than better than good.
If its not, its a cock-up and no mistake.
Well let's face it, even if it's not as good as everyone had hoped, I think the title for 'Most Overhyped and Utterly Disappointing Game of the Year 2004' has already been claimed......Doom 3, anyone?
...or not...doom 3 was an excellent game...aslong as you wanted doom and not 'ultra realistic and new-thing-around-every-polygon- shooter of the century' like so many ppl seemed to think it was. It was doom, and it did doom very well.Originally Posted by MAS

We should be finding out either today or monday if HL2 is going to go gold or if Vivendi accepted the RC. But I do know for sure that the RC definitely went to vivendi about 3 days ago
But why would we want Doom in 2004? We wanted Doom in 1993, not now. Anyone who still wants Doom in this day and age needs to raise their standards a tad, I think. Doom III was, looks aside, very poor indeed. FarCry was better in every regard apart from the looks and even then was at most 5-10% behind. I know people who think FarCry actually looks better because its not entirely set in pitch black tunnels.Originally Posted by Spud1
Anyway, on topic, Half Life II could yet be more dissapointing than even Doom III, as we haven't had the constant delays and release dates slipping with Doom III that we've had with Half Life II.
Why would we want HL2 then if we have had HL? I think you are missing his point, doom was a dark 'scary' game back when it first came out. Doom 3 is a modern version of the same type of game. But why would we want Doom in 2004? We wanted Doom in 1993, not now.
Both were good but I prefered doom3 to far cry, its all opinion.
As you've probably guessed, I agree with Vaul on Doom. And tbh I find the whole 'Oh it's supposed to play like it's 1993' thing a rather poor defence. I dont see Gabe Newell saying 'HL2 is HL how we always wanted it to be....with better graphics. And thats it. Nope, we've not made any other changes. Pointless in taking advantage of other advances in computers, I'm only interested in how it looks'. If you read the previews you can see that they've gone all out in an attempt to not only provide outstanding graphics, but to refine every other area of the FPS genre.
That's why I think that, even if HL2 doesnt live up to the hype, it will still be a very good game. It has too many things going for it; even if it doesnt all come together as a fantastic game, I think there's going to be a lot more to marvel at than just the graphics.
Anyway, I apologise for the Doom III comments, I'm not trying to drag this OT.
Let's hope that we hear something official soon, either way...
Well, I'm assuming Half Life II will not be as close a remake, or indeed a remake at all, of Half Life. Doom III was, as I'm sure you know, a reamke of the original Doom. Hense the outdated, laughable gameplay.
So, the reason we want Half Life II is to see progress, both in terms of looks, as Doom III managed, and gameplay, as it didn't.
