vivendi is the distributers and valve have a contract with them, vivendi are having a laugh with all us eager hl2ers by saying we cant unlock it until they say so.....the 16th
    i think

But they have to set a release date... and good for them to stiocking to it. Not nice if you've bought a retail copy in a shop though. Those shops SHOULD NOT be selling it early or, at the very least, they should be making people aware that the game is locked until the 16th.

I witnessed the backlash that Ubi got for differing release dates on Pacific Fighters, the US were SERIOUSLY miffed that Europe had the game two weeks before them... and then that actual release dates were slightly different state to state due to supply problems.

Vivendi are doing the right thing, as annoying as it may be for the impatient, by sticking to the 16th. Of course, if my copy sin't working on the 16th, I'll be donning my balaclava...

Yea its a little annoying for the peeps that have it but for Valve its a great way to stop peeps pirating the software.

Its a great excuse to get a dvd-rw anyway. 16x dual layer drives are around £50 delivered now. A crime not to.

As for hl2 - my card is being charged by GAME so i am assuming its been dispatched.
