They redesigned the battery compartment, it's now up to 5 hours, which is on a par with with the DS's 6 hours.

IGN have quoted times of 5 hours average

Its annoying that Sony got so much right with the PSP, and than have that one disappointing factor , im not bothered though , i'll just buy that spare battery

Although this should push developers to get creative with disk usage, will be good to see how well they can optimise

i reckon it might be possible, someone, sooner or later will make something be able to load off the MS, then BANG ! emulators, movie players, the WORKS

the problem is the UMD media disks are 1.8gb, so a game, a small one, could be a few hundred megs? gonna cost a lot in MS Duos, they arnt exactly cheap

I wasnt thinking of pirating PSP games , for the size, hassle, and the fact that i support sony (i know, crap excuse)

I was just thinking of the emulation side of things. But yes, if they do manage it then a 2GB stick would probably be needed

Sony better not piss around with the psp. My v3 ps2 laser fooked after less than a year, my 450 euro Net MD (first gen) stopped working WITHIN DAYS of warranty expiring. Sony DVD player acting up, no amount of laser cleaning fixes it. Sony sub woofer has had many problems. Sony headphones, poor audio jak in connector. Fine this may just be bad luck but according to many other people, Sony seem to be making products that don't last. NO doubt that the battery life will be an issue, perhaps we'll be seing the psp's battery assertaining the fate of the the 1,2,3 gen of ipods, after a year the battery runs for an hour or two only.

That happens with a lot of batteries. The issue with the ipods was replacing them...

Yeah, it cost $100(or more) or something for apple to replace it, also the advertised battery life was about 8 hours, although it would run 4-6 in most cases and got worse.

I've no idea where the battery compartment is, but I bet some 3rd party will produce a mega big battery that protrudes from the PSP but provides more life.

You see, thats one my pet peeves with laptop and iPod batteries, its like they require babysitting I've had a set of rechargeable Ni-MH AA batts that take a beating but always hold full charge and keep on trucking

Where as both my laptops go to sh*t after less than a year and thats without using the battery often , whats the secret with these new batts? What am i missing here?

You need to fully charge and fully discharge them regularly. If its always used from mains it goes to ****. Same as with phones really.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

The problem being high-tech devices cannot fully discharge as they'll turn themselves off first.

I heard a full discharge was bad for them as these Li-ion batteries are designed to have no memory effect?

I thought that full discharge thing was back in the Ni-cad days?

You will very soon receive another email with the subject "PSP Confirmation" when your PSP is allocated to you and the exact price is known. It is important that you reply to the "PSP Confirmation" email as fast as possible in order to get your PSP from the first batch.

There is no need to reply right now, as this email only contains information how you can prepare best to get your system shipped in time.

Please also read todays PSP Update, which includes "Opened and Exposed" pictures from the launch units:

    http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3547

    Price for Sony PSP:

    -------------------

If you have been following videogame news in the recent month, you will have realized by now that the PSP will be very expensive. There is a huge shortage (Supply much shorter than Demand) and any shop with PSP systems in Japan can sell their complete stock within 23 milliseconds for a premium price. Most shops don’t even have PSPs.

These very same shops in Japan also know that one quadrillion import gamers want their PSP at launch date (everyone does!), and that they can earn much more by taking a bit of risk and by smuggling their units out, despite the export prohibition in their contract. This coupled with the premium prices that the courier companies and middlemen take for getting the units out of the country, results in what you can see happening on eBay right now: hiked prices. This situation will continue throughout the month and until early 2005.

As with any other console release, Lik Sang will buy as much stock as possible and sell systems for the present market price. Some of you might remember the PlayStation 2 went for US$ 829 with Street Fighter EX 3 and the disappointing Ridge Racer V (and that was even a couple of weeks later than launch).

Lik Sang has three shipments scheduled coming in within the next weeks. Only the first shipment is 100% confirmed and will contain PSP Value Packs (PSP-1000K). The rest will depend on Sony’s shipping schedule in Japan and the prices will not drop before, at best, third shipment, and in worst case scenario, early 2005.

As with any other console releases, Lik Sang buys as much stock as possible, and forwards available options to customers instantly.
