I dont see the point of spending FAR over the odds and getting an import one.... its not long to wait to get one much cheaper. The value pack in Japan was going for around £110 - £120... i WAS told that it wont be launching at more than £150, and I think this is still highly pheasible. I would be surprised if Sony trys to ask up to £180 for this, after all, they want people to actually consider BUYING the PSP, and at £180 no where near as many people will consider it than if it had a sub-£150 price mark.

Lik-Sang just announced another price drop, now £202 for the value pack, and £175 for the standard pack.
It wouldn't surprise me if the £180 was for the value pack, and the standard pack came in at £150 for the UK launch

How much is their shipping
I'm just using lik-sang as an indicator to stock availability, the cheaper their prices the easier they are to get hold of
Going on from the above, I'd expect gbax to drop their prices again soon

Im still not sure wether i should try and import some and profit here. Or wether to pre-order half a dozen ready for the shortage.
Or maybe neither , not sure if i should take the chance
I read an article a while back--while the games might not be region locked, you can bet your knickers that the movies will be (the MPAA would have it no other way). Importing these things might not be such a good idea unless you think there is going to be a mini mod-chip.
Yep, you would lose your knickers, movies will be region locked.
End of the day, the offical UK launch is now close enough to sit it out and wait. No messing around with importing and a nice, safe UK PSP for any issues that may arrise.
I've still got a sneaking suspicion that it might still be cheaper to get it from an importer like gbax after the launch, after all, the exchange rate puts the Japanese price at well under £100, and with consistant rumours placing the UK price at £180 there's still a lot of room for both profit for the importers and savings for the consumer..
Of course, Sony could always do the unthinkable and go for price parity over here.. *falls off chair laughing*

I would be surprised if Sony go for a sub £150 price mark. They know the british public are gullable, they know people will pay £150... and 6 months down the line, when less stupid people buy, they drop the price to £100, and many more not quite so stupid people buy the console.
I am one of these stupid people that pays the £50 extra because i want it NOW.

Spong.com have a news release stating the US launch price at $250 for the value pack..
Which would translate into the £180 price being bandied about
Looks somewhat stupid when compared to the Japanese price which works out at under £120 for the value pack..
SONY, we are *not* amused...

Possibly another case of rip off britain in the making. Do you think they will reduce the price within a few months after its out?
/strokes his PSP.
It is purdy.
Yank launch details in full:
Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced the North American launch date and pricing structure for its anticipated PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld. The device, which launched in Japan last year, is set to debut in the US and Canada on March 24 for suggested retail prices of $249 USD and $299.99 CND respectively.
Unlike the Japanese launch, which offered a base PSP package for approximately $185 USD, North American buyers will only be able to get one bundle, the pricier PSP Value Pack.
On top of everything else, the first one million people to purchase a PSP in the US will receive a bonus UMD featuring the full feature film Spider-Man 2.
And a list of games avalible:
# Ape Escape: On the Loose, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, Capcom
# Dynasty Warriors, KOEI
# FIFA 2005, Electronic Arts
# Gretzky NHL, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# Lumines, Ubisoft
# Metal Gear Acid, Konami
# MLB, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# MVP Baseball, Electronic Arts
# NBA, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# NBA Street Showdown, Electronic Arts

# Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, Activision
# Twisted Metal: Head On, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, Sony Online Entertainment
# Wipeout Pure, Sony Computer Entertainment America
# World Tour Soccer, Sony Computer Entertainment America
Of those, Lumines, Metal Gear Acid, Rider Racers, Wipeout Pure and Untold Legends look to be the ones to keep an eye on.
Anyway that's about £135 for a value pack. Bit annoying that the American launch is for value packs only not stand-alone PSPs, as I already have some nice Bang and olufsen earphones and bigger Pro Duo cards waiting. Probably a good bet the UK launch will be the same on the Value Pack front.
