    Angry FarCry

Im feeling quite enraged right now....

Had FarCry through the post this morning, installed it just now all egar to play it etc etc, went to play it and guess what. Nothing happens, im stuck on the desktop. Most of the "better rated" games i have are doing this to me lately...

First Football Manager 2005 (eventually got it working)
    2nd UT2004 (doesnt work on SP2)
3rd Rush Hour for simcity 4 has to be installed under safemode cos it crashes out under normal windows.

And to add to this its now seems like its FarCry's turn to mess me around.

What the hell is wrong with my system doing this to me all the time. I had SP2 installed so thinking it could be that i uninstalled it and tried again but to no avail. Whats happening and been happening is, the game loads into memory and then for some reason loads out and doesnt run. I stay firmly on the desktop (and im only having this problem with games). However with FarCry it loads and just lingers in memory not doing anything. Im about to put a boot through my computer, im soo pi**ed off its unbelievable!! . I just want to play the games ive paid good money for. Is that too much to ask? Any way could this be a memory problem of some sort? My RAM is over 3 years old now and i am a heavy user of the computer.

My system specs are under my sig pic.

UT2004 works fine on SP2??! Ive had it working loads and there was a discussion before about ut2003 not working on sp2 so go out and buy ut2004 becuase it does.

Sounds like u are having general PC problems? Your specs seems fine... how about a format and reinstall if you havnt done it in a while

Update all drivers, not just graphics card. I had problems in a range of games and turned out to be sound card drivers.

agreed, i've seen sound card drivers block command & conquer games.

though as people have said, your problems aren't sp2 related

I done a format about a week ago. I do it roughly every 3 months or so. Im currently waiting for UT2004 to be re-delivered to me. I had it a few weeks back but had to send it back for reasons im not going to bore people with now.

I am using a creative sb Audigy1. Ill update the drivers for it and report back. Im up to date with my other stuff. If im not mistaken Creative Drivers and WinXP never went well together when the first audigy came out. Ive had numerous problems installing them after a format. Thanks for your quick replies

Ok, just updated my soundcard drivers and the same thing happens eventually...

I click to start the game and nothing happens for a good minute, then suddenly the farcry splash screen is displayed on a black background and then it just crashes to th DT.

Ive tried compatibility wizard aswell, that returns the same negative result. Ive also turned all the details down to low and that has the same outcome.

My anti-virus program causes a few games to crash on load, try disabling yours and see if it will load.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

I've found that FarCry wont run on my system if I've got AA/AF set at driver level. It's fine if these are at Application Preference then AA/AF is set in the game. Try that and see if it helps.

Dont have any anti-virus programs. Just use spyware programs

Yeh i thought of this last night. And tried it but it didnt change anything sadly however I then did a format and installed WinXP-SP2 along with Directx, FarCry and my GF6600gt Drivers. Nothing else was installed. I treid the game and it worked. I then went about to install my sound drivers tried the game again and it worked fine. I thought i was onto a winner. However after i installed things like Winamp, WinRaR, Spybot, MSN and about 5 or 6 other free programs and tried the game again it didnt load. Note i havent installed anything thats over 8MB really. Im wondering now if theres a program i got thats causing some sort of conflict somewhere and for some reason .

When i go to start the game now the splash screen is displayed and then i hear the windows critical stop noise, and nothing happens. This is happening only after i install my programs.

okay then, you're on a roll on finding which app specifically causes problems, what are the 5 or 6 other programs, and can you install them one at a time next time?
