Battlefield 1942 had exactly the same problems. I don't know why they can't run the menu in the background and not load from HDD like all other games.

update - well my crashing problem seems to have vanished...as if my magic, just had a 2hr game

The only problem now it getting on ranked servers - theres so few UK/Europe ones and they are ALWAYS full ;/

i dont know why everyone seems so intent on getting on ranked servers,just to get a few rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish guns that arent even as good as the normal ones u get?

cos ea charge a fortune to rent out ranked servers,its about £270 a month for a 64 player ranked server.

EA dont provide ranked servers - they have a contract wtih multiplay to do so. This means that while any server comnpany can rent out a BF2 server, only multiplay are allowed to rent out ranked ones.

sucks really, all it can mean is less ranked servers

Its not about unlocking the weapons either, its about the stats, the ranks - it will give us something to aim for in the game after the initial wow period

it stops all programs connecting to the net without permission, and i hadnt allowed it.

No problems here, found it suprisingly easy to get frags online, things are so chaotic at times people leave themselves open for a quick headshot. I've yet to find a squad that communicates even through text chat!
