Well I managed to get it to run but had to do a full install and patch on another machine, then copy it over to the main machine via the network!
I glad it runs now but it's been a headache.

There is no no-CD (no-DVD) patch at the moment.

Easiest thing to do if you're having problems getting the disc to read is to pick up a cheap DVD ROM for around £10-£15

remember ramo - it'll modify the exe, so you can only play SP - punkbuster will pick it up, and you won't be able to play on ranked servers.

i think everyone is waiting for the latest bf2 patch-fu - hopefully sorts out many of those annoying niggles
