Oh and I usually have to restart the PC to get the game to start, it seems incredibly pickie about what programs I've been running.
    Usual scenario:
    1. Use PC, IE, Outlook, PSP, etc etc.
    2. Decided to play.
    3. Start BF2.
    4. Initial screen appears briefly before dropping back to desktop.

A restart fixes the problem but for a program that is so system heavy I would expect far better performance out-of-the-box following extensive testing.

My assumption is that the community has been clamouring for the game for so long, and making pointed comments about the usual EA/DICE delays from the other games, that the developers were forced to save-time somewhere.

Of course when I'm playing I'm as happy as a pig-in but it's such a frustrating experience.

    EA!
Following the example of MMORPG games like WOW and release a beta next time!

What gets me is that the demo version I ran in XP and XP 64bit (which it wasn't supposed to support) ran perfectly.

I love the game even though I'm not that good.
But it's now getting to a situation where you cannot get on a server either.

I think the new patch is suffering from the same memory leak as the previous patch. I came out of a game the other night and it took a while for my desktop to appear. This is with a fresh XP install and 2gig ram!

I agree i think that this patch has a memory leak too as it takes ages to get back to my desktop now.

I agree, it seems my machine slows over time. We're talking a slow-puncture type leak but it's definitely still there.

I was having issues with BF2 - runs fine on my laptop, but not on my desktop. demo runs on desktop, but not on laptop - it's sorted now - explanation below.
anything using ethernet connection causes server browser to drop and do a partial refresh - but there's no way to force it to purge it's data, and get a new master list.
that's simply unacceptable that they don't seem to be using standard methodologies - how hard is it to have a filesize or arraysize checksum (however they choose to implement) it's not very expensive in terms of memory usage.
Fine CS:S had similar texture issues in the beta - but that was resolved early on - and IT WAS BETA.
Fine you're allowed to make texture mistakes in maps - but that's something that should be able to be fixed with a 20kb patch file.
The whole point of DirectX was that standard API's could be used by everyone - we've all accepted that it's a half-way house type-fix. it's not a great solution - but it is a workable solution. I think that's the point JM is trying to make in his roundabout way.
However - many of the issues should be able to be resolved by carefully testing your combinations of devices and drivers. for example: BF2 wouldn't even load when I've had my IR dongle plugged into my main box. After unpluggng everything i could think of - printer, scanner, webcam, palm cradle and IR dongle - it started working fine. Started plugging in bits one by one - finally established that for some bizarre, totally incomprehensible reason - the Actisys IR dongle was somehow preventing BF2 from loading.
Never seen anything like it - I don't know whether BF2 was trying to use memory allocated to a hardware device or what - but it's bizarre, and hurts my head when I try to think about it. I would be interested to see if anyone else is running an Actisys IR2200-U - and successfully running BF2!

Well my game was constantly crashing every 10 minutes but when I added another 1GB to make it 2GB I haven't had a crash since.

1.02 seems to work well for me.

Before I was getting connection problems and it would disconnect me from the server at random intevals. Now everything seems fine.

Sounds like it's PunkBuster crapping out. Sometimes it doesn't update itself automatically so you get kicked with PB errors. PBweb is the program you use to update it manually

Not amused with this patch. Those of us that use the inverted mouse method now have inverted menu mouse as well when picking spawns etc.

    Do they employ beta testers????
