after reading this informative thread (simply ignore jonney folks, it makes everything better)

something i have pondered is,

how exactly DO they test games for configuration problems?

i mean they cant load the game on every single pc they can get there hands on can they? (well i think EA make us the game testers....)

do they have some kind of software that does it for them?

they normal test the basics.

Current ranges of GFX chips, but if they are sponsered (A la Hl2 and UT2004 with ati and nvidia respectively) they can choose to just test on those brands.

Current series of CPUs, but sometimes they restrict to Intel and not many test on the x64 systems yet.

Memory they probably use expensive stuff.

Everything else is not changed.

There are actually people in the industry who's job is to ensure that software developers producst run on certain hardware specs... NVIDIA and ATI have people specifically do to this job.

Obviously with the near infinite range of hardware configs out there and the sheer number of games released, stuff does slip through... of course, on top of that, software devs might choose to just plain ignore issues put in front of them until such time as they're ready to deal with them... I'm not saying that's what has happened here but there's obviously something awry somewhere.

And to answer your last question Jonney.

Not all computers are the same, different driver versions, different Firmware and BIOS revisions (yes these do make an impact) different installed programs, different interrupts, different security patches etc...

In the good old days (sounding old now) games were nowhere near as complex as they are now and game developers had the time to ensure they were fully tested.

o and btw the new patch is crap, sud of stuck with the first 1.. i have to wait 2mins after game is loaded up to stop the stuttering or lagging occuring

But big companies like EA are known for forcing developers to work massive over time, cutting back on testing etc...

This is why most games come out on the PC then goto consoles, you cannot patch a console game, you can patch a PC one.

I think its the fact that his style of writing we don't usually associate with the people we normally meet.

I use a similar, tho not as crude version sometimes when i type but mainly in text messages to get more information accross for less money.

But Jonney, you are typing on a forum, you should have time to write things out correctly.

If you typed a letter of a CV out like that you wouldn't get a job.

I got to say this game sucks in my opinion.
It's managed to screw both my O/S's for me.
I have had the game on and back off my machine 6 times Yes 6 time today alone for various reasons.
Here they;
game wouldn't run
I have the incorrect version so cannot log onto a server (it's an original version no patches)
it won't run yet again
the patch crashed screwed the game up
the patch failed to install correctly
I stuck with the latter but it seem to run Ok.
I think that EA are a joke charging what they do for what can only be describes in my opinion as beta software.

The game is great other than that ohh and the problems getting a space on a server.

How old are you Jonney? You type like a 13 year old chav would speak.

And how did you come to the conclusion that we are "too posh" to understand? You don't know any of us anywhere near well enough to make to assumptions.

Well i have battlefield 2 and so does my brother, my cousin and one of my friends.

I personnally have not had any problems with the game at all, even with the 1.02 patch.

But my brothers copy would not let him go on any of the servers, so he tried to remove the game and he couldnt.

So he had to delete the folder where the game was installed to, the My Document\BF2 folder and remove the installshield installation folder from program files.

Then he could re-install the game, and now it works perfectly.

My cousin had errors come up in BF2 to do with DirectX 9.0C so had to install the un-offical upgrade thats on Microsofts website then when he tried to install the patch, it could not find the game so he had to remove the game the same way my brother had to.

My friend had to install new drivers for everything on his PC to get the game to run without stuttering really bad.


So it seems to me that as as been said on this topic already every PC is different and you never know what might go wrong.

Far too many variables with PC's sometimes, might leave PC gaming when the Xbox360 or PS3 have been out for a while.

But as i said MY PC runs Battlefield 2 flawlessly (It's my game of the year so far..)
i have am A64 3ghz socket 939, Epox NF4 ultra motherboard, 2GB of 3200 ram and a X800XT PciE videocard.

To be frank guys, the 'jonney speak' bashing is getting out of hand (just have a look at what some people have posted in regards to it. IMO that sort of thing is far less welcome on these forums than something as harmless as the way jonney types..)

Well I cant get the patch to work correctly for me, the game wont start and crashes to the desktop. I've given up on this one, its a fun game but im not spending my days installing then re-installing over and over again.

or to put it more pathetically, if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all

1.01 worked for me fine.
1.00 worked ok.
1.02 took an age to install (during which time it looked like it had stalled) but made it in the end.

Now after an hour or two of gameplay lag reaches a ridiculous level and yet the system says I'm still on a sub-100 ping.
RAM usage runs at approximately 700Mb with a 750-800Mb page file. Idle readings are 170Mb RAM used and 230Mb page file. Page-file settings are 1024Mb minimum, 2048 max.

Either it's my connection or there's still a minor memory leak. I'll be testing it as much as possible over the next few nights to find out.
Anyone else suffering similar issues?

Im one of the lucky ones by the sound of it. Haven't had any probs at all except a view CTDs at the begining.
