I had to drop to 1024x768 with 8x aniso and 2x AA to make it enjoyable, but it is nice to look at. Although, I'm not sure I'd trade silky smooth framerates of 1600x1200 non-HDR for this tho, TBH...

It is very short, but it's a nice taster of what's possible, and good for a freebie..

Hope you all enjoy it.. S.

Can't remember, but it took my 2Mb link just over 15min to download, then a reboot due to my firewall getting sniffy about something.

Tried it, I don't know why Valve took so long to get this out the door. TBH I don't think its all that special, graphically.

Full settings, 4x AA, 2x AS

Ran it at 1280x1024 rather than 1680x1050 to run it a bit faster.

in terms of gameplay its terrible

but it shows you what the can achieve with the Source engine

HL3 is gonna be on the same engine as HL2, which makes sense when you consider that as new tech comes out then can just add it into the engine (ala HDR)

they are clever chaps at valve

With higher quality textures + HDR HL3 should look good and run on lower end systems when released.

Lost Coast is the tech demo, it was originally part of the chapter with the buggy in HL2 but after the beta leak they culled it and replaced it with other things, when they released HL2 they said they knew there was alot of material that had been cut, that the fans wanted to see and they said it would be a great way to demonstrate steams capabilities by releasing 'Episodic Content'

so, with any luck they are planning on releasing some of the bits we saw in the 2003 E3 videos - and possible some things we have not seen yet

Lost Coast was moulded into a tech demo to demonstrate HDR, but when they released hl2 i remember reading they were going to release it as Episodic content, not necessarily to demonstrate HDR

HL2:Aftermath is the full add on, comes out next month i believe...so thats like next month next year by valves watches

theres also a few 3rd party games that are worth having a look at, some of them look quite good tbh

Ah I will download it as after watching the E3 video's and then finding out they removed it. Especially that harbour scene when you saw the container wipe out the mobs.
