Other than GT5... u still have legends like tekken 6, VF5... 2 of the finest 3D versus games that will run exclusively on PS3... Fan base for both of these are as large as the population of China.. ... ok.. silly estimate..

Compare that with the scrubbish DOA4, that enough warrants a PS3 purchase.. but then I'm still hooked on Tekken 5, will need a good revamp to bring me to a PS3..

Also, FFXIII.. I know, virtual chick isnt worth going for.. but the trailer in E3 just got me so hooked on to it..
    Me want Ultrabook

    FFXIII, MGS4, Assassins Creed...

The PS3 is still terribly tempting.

I've been determined to get a PS3 ever since it was announced but now I'm not so sure. Much as I love the whole launch day excitement thing I think I'll wait a while and avoid the early adopters tax.

I have a 360 and I think that'll be my main gaming machine for the next year or so. I'll just have to live without the Sony exclusives for a while. Although I think if I see GT5 running in HD somwehere my credit card may jump out of my wallet.

I could maybe persuade myself that Wii would make a good "bargain" though ! Thanks to the E3 coverage it just looks like a whole lotta fun and I feel a lot of loyalty to Nintendo as a brand. I recently bought both Metroid games for the Cube for the princely sum of £16 and don't think I've ever got more play for my pennies !

For me its not just the £425 for the console but with all the extras you have to buy at launch , how much is a decent launch bundle gonna cost. If the games are £50 plus as has been suggested and a second pad for say £35 + you could be looking at £600 + easy.

But thats normal for any console release. After all you want to ba able to play a couple of games on your nice new shiney hardware. I always buy 3-4 games and a spare controller with the launch of a new console. Whats the point of having games you can't play with your friends.

I know what your saying mate , but what i was saying is that with the console itself costing so much with the other stuff you always buy at a launch your looking at a large outlay straight away. When i got my 360 at launch i got a Premium pack , 3 games a second wireless pad and a play and charge kit all for £440

There's just so much coming out it's taking it's toll on my wallet!

XBOX360 - I just had to have it, got it on launch day. Love it to bits.
Wii - I've just got to have it, will pre-order when I can.
PS3 - I really wanted it, but it's going to have to take a back seat now.
Vista PC - I'm in need of an upgrade, and I think I'll be getting one to coincide with the release of Vista.

I think I'll have to go with three of the four things above, and the PS3 is the one that's gonna get cut from my shopping list till mid-late next year.

ps3 pricing is terrible, however it will still be a major success because people buy brand names.

It gets worse.. Apparently theres going to be 2 versions, and ~£425 is the cheaper one! This will have, as I recall (from either The Inquirer or The Register), a 20gig hard drive. The more expensive version will have a 100gig drive and a few extra gubbins like more/better high def outputs or something.

Their excuse? Other blu-ray players will be £600+ so the PS3's a bargain..

Aye, the rumour about only being the 60 Gig full-specced version is due to Sony not actually officially announcing a UK price for it.

Their thinking, as I interpret it, is flawed anyway.

Sony criticized over their 'two tier' launch for the XBox 360, saying that it would confuse consumers... This didn't happen.

Sony say the 20 Gig, less equipped PS3, which WILL be compatible with wireless controllers, is aimed at gamers whereas the larger 60Gig version is aimed at 'home users'... ie, folks who want to use the PS3 as a media centre/part of their home media network.

The flaw in this, as I see it, is that given the option between a fully pimped PS3 or one that I will likely have to buy extra bits for shortly after getting it, I'm going to go for the full spec jobby.

    BUT...

Just cos that's what I'D do doesn't mean that's what Sony's fanbase will do.

Sony's biggest problem by far is the mixed/ambiguous messaging they're giving everyone.

If I were them I'd copy Nintendo and just keep shtum until everything is definite.

Want an example? Asking a Nintendo rep when the Wii is coming out and what it'll cost got me a "Sorry, I don't know". Asking the same question over at the Sony stand got me "It's out in late October and it'll be about the same as the XBox 360", "We're doing a gloabl launch in November and it'll be the same as the XBox 360" and "It'll probably be in Europe for Christmas and that's in large numbers so it's not sold out all the time. I don;t know for sure how much it'll be but around $400 dollars is about right.."

If Sony just stuck to facts and spent a bit of time anticipating basic questions, we wouldn't be left wondering all the time and Sony would spend less time fighting the fires of rumours and specualtion and spend more time convicning us we need a PS3.

cripes, i might just get me a 360 + HD-DVD drive when it comes out and a Wii. The only thing the PS3 seems to have going for it is MGS4!

would be dead funny to play a Star-Wars game with one of those remote control thingies.

The biggest problem going that route is that in 18 month (or so) when HDCP protection starts appearing on discs the 360 will not be able to play them in 720P HD only 540P. The same applies to the "budget" version of the PS3. The other issue will be no HDMI support.

Interesting article can be found here at IGN.

Fair point, but I for one certainly dont care about films and their high definition.
