I think one the best adventure games is The Longest Journey:-

    http://www.justadventure.com/reviews...LJ_review.shtm

Its just got a great story to it which sucks you in and an immensely likeable lead character.

Not sure if its fully XP compatible without software jiggery pokery though.

see, most of these posts are about "classics". the early-mid 1990s games from Lucasarts and their ilk

they're simply not made anymore - after all, why play a witty adventure game when there's a world war 2 first person shooter to be played?

Could try one of the Siberia games, although it's just not Monkey Island, what game is.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Old, I know, but if you can track down the talkie version of it, and get dosbox to get it to run fine on XP then i really recommend Gabriel Knight (just the first one - the others were a bit pap). I loved the setting - out in the deep south and with a dark edge regarding voodoo - sends you about the world, but was really good..

...If only i could run my mac version to run on my PC - all 20 floppies of it!!!!

But, not a comic point and click - very much an engrossing storyline and probably my fave point and click - and I've played the majority of the one previously mentioned too.

As pointed out, you aren't going to find any modern ones, so why not just track down all the oldies that you havent played!!! Have fun

"Sins of the Fathers" IIRC, played it, loved it

Pretty much all the games mentioned so far I have played, as I love that genre... and why I miss it so much

There hasn't been a real pointy-clicker for a long time. There are, however, some passable, albeit quite simplified ones available for the DS. The cream of the crop is undoubtedly Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney, Although te exploration bits are really just a case of clicking on everything you can find to click on and exploring every dialogue option, there's a great feeling of personal achievement and victory when you put together the clues and tear a big hole in a testimony. (The game is a bit mad as well, and although localised it still has a slight Japanese pop culture feel to it)

Another Code is pretty good as well. Again it's quite simple, but it uses the actual form factor of the DS in some clever ways. (Phoenix Wright is actually a GBA port, so most of the time the touchscreen functionality is very basic. You can use the mic to shout Objection though.)

Obviously, because they're on handheld they're less good for playing in groups, but poking the game with a stylus is such a natural interface for these games.

A man after my own heart, i got Fahrenheit for the same reason, hoped it would be a modern day Monkey Island, I'll be honest though, i was disappointed, there is a bit of a puzzle solving element to it, but unlike monkey island and it's bizarre pulleys in chickens they are just too obvious, linear and unimaginative. And other than that it's just a series of button pressing mini games.

In my opinion if you can't get stuck and wander around for hours aimlessly trying to use 2 objects together and find where to put them the game is missing something. It's almost as if that frustration is enjoyable.

I've just been doing a little search to try and find out if curse of monkey island is meant to be a 2 disc or 3 disc game (i can only find 2 of mine) and while i was looking i found this

http://www.telltalegames.com/samandmax/ (don't think anyone here has mentioned there is a new Sam & Max game on it's way yet.

Also, Adventures of Willy Beamish is another game i don't think has been mentioned yet.

Yeah the "puzzles" are more like Dance Dance Revolution than any real adventure game! Although it was a good game to play it just isn't a proper adventure.

you could try the CSI games, these are point and click and can be tailored to the game holding your hand to just do it all yourself (no helpful cursor changes etc)
