Are there any modern games of the Monkey Island ilk?

My wife and I both love the type of "adventure" game where graphics are not the main focal point, but the entertainment is more in the puzzle-solving and not twitch-style play which just gets frustrating.

I'm talking about the Sierra Online games like Space Quest, King's Quest and Police Quest, and Lucasarts games like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones.
To a lesser extent Simon the Sorceror, Discworld and the earlier Leisure Suit Larry escapades.

Games with humour, puzzles, interest and no reliance on uber-realistic 3D graphics or lightning reactions.
Are there any such games made these days?

Bone, and Sam & Max, from Telltale Games

but essentially, the point & click is dead. at the real fringes is something like Fahrenheit, but as far as the industry is concerned, nobody wants or plays them

Fahrenheit is an amazing game, I recommend it too. Try the demo out as that gives you a nice taster of the first level.

How could I forget Sam & Max? *slaps own forehead*
Full Throttle was also made around that time IIRC (eek, is it really a decade ago?).

Not heard of Bone or Farenheit before, will have to check those out.

Just so very tired of the FPS genre, and especially the plots which tend towards "evil scientist does bio-engineering/discovers portal to another world/performs necromancy and you are the only one who can kill the mutants/aliens/zombies to save the world".

I yearn for the "attach chewing gum to stick, use stick-with-chewing-gum on drain to get key" type of bizarre actions

Point and clicks adventures are some of the best game there have been imho. I loved all of the mentioned ones like Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max.

What about the fantastic Myst games? Abfab series

I did play some really good freeware game from a site called gamehippo. The ones I like were: Ozzie and the Quantum Playwright, Out of Order, Beneath a Steel Sky, The Breakdown and Cirque de Zale.

    Hope that helps mate

There are some great 2D point and click games still to be played. Check out the shareware scene.

Took a little persuasion, but eventually got the Fahrenheit demo to run (installer doesn't like 64-bit versions of Windows), it seems nicely scripted and the animations are slick... might have to buy that one

    Thanks for the input guys.

Have you played the latest Monkey Island? That's newer than Sam and Max.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Oh yes, the standard by which all point-and-click adventures should be set, my wife even has a limited edition box set of the Monkey Island games, and 5.25" floppies with the old Sierra Online classics.

YOu could look into the DaVinci Code, not so much of a point and click but more of a puzzle solving game. I think there are some battle squencey bits in it though so I think it's kind of a mix of puzzles and twitch gaming.
