Sainsbury's
I can walk there if i'm at a loose end and only need a few things (takes about 15-20min). And i like them.
Sometimes go to Lidl to stock up on weird european produce, they have some great things you don't get anywhere else.
I have a Co-op and a Spar just round the corner and along the road that i use for milk and bread etc.
I used to shop at Tesco all the time as it was on my way back from the office, but i just find the store in Aberdeen so depressing, it's just a great big shed.
EDIT: I also view Sainsbury's as less evil than Tesco and Asda. We don't have a Waitrose up here or i would probably go there.
Tesco for me as I live less than 200m from a 24 hour supermarket and I always wander down when I need something.
The local farm near my nan's is visited if I need eggs, and local produce but the main stuff is from tesco or Adsa as there's an Asda near work.
tesco because there is a MASSIVE tesco store near me and got nice range of dvd's/games
I said Sainsburys because it's the closest (still 20 mins walk) and I like to think of myself as better for shopping there Nah, it just seems superior quality to the others imo.
As for the above quote, definitely yes. My mum used to shop at Sainsburys and now at Morrisons, so I shop there too (since there's no Morrisons round here).
If I had the money it'd definitely be Marks & Sparks!
Actually, i would shop in M&S if i didn't keep forgetting about it
they have some really nice, good quality fresh food that i wouldn't mind paying a little more for.
Depends entirely on how much money I have, and how lazy I feel =)
90% of my shopping is at tesco, as there is an extra 5 mins walk from my house, and for the next 3 weeks at least i'm still working there (can't wait to quit!)
If I can be bothered to walk the extra 15 mins then I will go to sainsburys, as I much prefer certain meals from there, and they stock some things that tesco don't.
If I have money though (eg if I have just been paid) then its Marks and Spencers no question - their food range, especially the 'pub' ready meals are gorgeous
I do occasionally shop at ASDA, but *only* for branded things and only when I'm really really broke..ASDA is far too cheap and nasty for anything own branded, and i'm not at the bottom of the social pyramid yet =)
I feel the need to sort this misconception out.
Supermarkets sell 4 ranges. (It used to be 3)
1) The Actual Product. Heinz Backed beans for example.
2) The 10p Cheaper Own Name brand. Asda Beans.
3) The 30p Cheaper gross "white brand". Smart Price/No Frills beans.
4) The new one - the "Good for you"/"health choice" beans.
When I lived in Stoke at 17, and was poor (run a house of me and 2 mates on my part times wage) I sampled the "White brands."
Tesco was the nearest. And the worst. By a GOOD distance.
Asda was better, by a decent way - except certain products. Which is why today, when I'm not poor, I still give them my custom - don't buy many of the "Whites" anymore, but wouldn't be adverse to if need to.
Asdas white brand > Tescos. And this is a voice of experience
"whites" as you call them, or basically value 'food' don't count as food to me.
I won't eat any of that rubbish from any of the stores; most of it has the nutritional value of a gnat, and tastes about as good...
It doesn't matter which supermarket has the best tasting value food, since its all shocking
Asdas own label stuff is terrible anyway, especially ready meals. If you want proof either taste some, or just look at the ingredients..
edit: Also your 4 grouping don't seem right in the slightest. If you want to classifly what supermarkets sell..
1) Value/Smart-Price/Basics - cheap and nasty food, own label, tesco+sainsburys is identical in a diff box, asda do their own version with less nutrition (but cheaper)
2) Standard own brand - average price and generally OK - again with tesco+sainsburys 90% or so is identical, and asda do all their own (which taste shocking)
3) Healthy living/BGTYS - own brand but with less salt/fat/whatever is bad..not sure what these compare like accross the stores
4) Finest/TTD/Best - Generally the nicest supermarket food, different in each chain from what I can tell, but also the most expensive.
5) Branded goods - heinz beans, Goodfellas etc - same in each store but with diff prices
I would say they are the 5 main ranges really, excluding vegi/free from etc etc.

I can only comment on "Whites" and normal food - I went from poor at that age, to decent now so never did the "own brands" - although I tried the Marmite alternative...
There's only one marmite.
And mate, for the record, if there was another choice - I wouldn't have eaten it. Obviously.
Waitrose is our choice every time, though we sometimes go to Sainsburys. The Tesco store that we have here is a depressing pit - bleak and morbid, not sure if its the lighting or the shuffling ipod zombies that populate it.
For the real good stuff though we use a local market - fruit and veg mainly.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
We used to shop at asda, the fruit and veg was terrible, used to go off very quickly, but their meat is quite good value.
Not around too often!
Asda, we have the biggest one in britain here (or at least it was, not sure anymore) and you can get everything there reasonably cheap. Also get bits from Morrisons as there's one round the corner and if I'm desperate for something I'll go to somerfield (I work there at the weekends and they also happen to do the best cherry pies out of all the supermarkets!)
Are you in Bristol? That one is huuuge!
I picked Asda because I feel their quality has improved greatly over the years yet they're still cheap. All the Tescos around us seem to be rubbish for fruit & veg and often out of stock of half the shopping list. Sainsburys is good, but a normal shop there usually comes to quite a bit more than the other two.
I'd put the Asda here above the Tescos in terms of quality as well as value, but I know that's not necessarily the case in different areas, and the Asda is miles away meaning I often end up in Tesco anyway.
