What's this in my garden?

I found this little thing in the garden whilst hacking up a hedge. Any ideas what it is? It's front right paw looked a bit of a mess Is it very young or domestic? It was in no way scared of me which makes me think it must be one or the other. Anyway, onto the pics (sorry it was my phone camera):

Looks like a field mouse.

Ah yes, does seem to be. Strange to see it in the garden at this time of day, they're meant to be nocturnal and it's the front garden next to a road.

It might just be a normal mouse. If they've been poisoned they get very dopey before they die. One possible explanation, albeit a not very pleasant one.

Looks like a common house mouse to me - I was in the garden applying a nice sun burn to my photosensitive legs on Sunday and caught one of these running along the side of the back grid.

Looks like a Woodmouse (other people call them Fieldmouse) by the tail and by the proportions of it I'd say it's a young one... They're usually very skippy indeed (we've got several zipping around the garden at home at the moment.) Doesn't sound good for his prospects, poor little fella.

If you've got some bird food or oats leave some by him but, sad to say, he'll probably be eaten by something before long. Ah the beauty of nature...

I think his ears and tail are too big to be a house type mouse (unless he's a bit ugly as mice go ?!), i think he is a field/wood mouse !!?

I have to concur with it being a field/wood mouse. Makes a change to see a whole one! Usually see them headless when my Dad's cats bring them in... If it's limping it probably managed to escape from a cat.

I was tempted to do something, try and coax it into a shoe box and move it into the woods, but then I thought some poor bird would go hungry.... just as long as there's no beautiful mess left on the paving slabs!
