    Riddle me this... a question of morals

    Imagine somebody orders a Wii online from Argos.

    It doesn't turn up the day it's supposed to, forcing the purchaser to stay in all day for no good reason... so they complain. Argos send out another, apologising, offering a £20 voucher as well.

    However, a neighbour turns up a few days later, with the original Wii, three days late! It was delivered to (and signed for by) somewhere else.

    So, WWYD?

    1. Ring Argos and hope they let you keep it anyway.
    2. Don't ring Argos.

    BTW... I didn't just buy a Wii!
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I think don't ring Argos is a general life rule, as well as the answer to this little moral question.

    Two ways to look at it...
    1. Argos is a big company, they are not going to miss a Wii.
    2. That Wii doesn't belong to this theoretical person.

    If you contact Argos they will get that Wii back, no question about it, they won't let you keep it. I'm amazed they didn't get onto the delivery people!

    Scenario 1: They dont call, free wii.

    Scenario 2:

    Argos: Do you have our other wii?
    You: Ah yes I had been meaning to phone about that glad you caught me old chum!

    Either way not your fault so let them do the chasing.
    Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
    Enwrought with golden and silver light,
    The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
    Of night and light and the half-light,
    I would spread the cloths under your feet:
    But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
    Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

    Take it a chance to get one over 'the man'!!!

    Either way THEY should contact you to claim it back, they probs have insurance, but after a month it should be yours, then you can photocopy your receipt, and take the other one back under the guarantee

    (if it breaks ninty need a photocopy of the receipt you see)

    Yeah, i'd agree with RavenNight on this, surely they'd have confirmation from the delivery chaps that it had been delivered..?

    I mean this is a corporation, so i doubt they could be bothered to check the addresses against each other - but if someone claims on something like a Wii - that's probably short stocked anyway - would it not make sense to check before blindly sending out another one?

    Give em a month to sort it out and then if nothing happens, Ebay - Seriously it's a tough one, but i suppose i probably would just give it back, i mean, i know how difficult it's been for some of my mates to get hold of a Wii, and i'd feel bad knowing that i've deprived someone else of one just because i wanted to make a quick buck.

    I'd call them. Saves you feeling all dirty and dishonest if and when they do call you

    I got an "extra" DVD recorder from John Lewis and had to ring up to tell them of their error. I like to think it's because I'm an honest bloke. But maybe it's because I'm a mug (you there! I can see you hovering over the quote button and nodding !) or more likely it's because I've been involved in the retail side of businesses with fulfilment warehouses.

    You might not think Argos will miss it financially, but they will notice it outstanding in their stock system at some point. Then someone gets the blame of it. They might just get a bollocking, might get worse. I've seen folk sacked for similar... just saying...

    It seems possible it's the couriers fault. So Argos should still let you have the £20, and they can claim it back from the couriers. Everyone should be happy. The only folk out of pocket are the couriers, and they should be, it's their error. Don't think anyone should want any more than that.

    I'd phone them, but I'm shockingly honest.

    Was taking receipt of a wire transfer the other day, noticing it was a grand over what I was expecting. Told the guy, who tells me I was actually sent a grand more than I thought was coming in....I'd have been gutted if he'd taken the money away, but still can't keep my mouth shut...

    Exert from a company that called me six months after not renewing my contract.
    "Did we pay you twice for your last months pay"
    (me)"I'll have to check my bank statements"
    "... erm OK"
    (me)"How about I give you a call back once I've checked them"
    "Yes that would be good"

    Four years and counting.

    Go with Scientist solution, and if they don't call and the thought still gives you sleepless nights auction it for charity.
