Yup seems ok, i don't intend on having kids either soo..

    I do intend on a 911 though

I would prefer to be earning a good wage by the time my mates are out of uni, and get stuck on thier 18k grad jobs anyway..

There are too many uni snobs out there tbh, i went to uni i will always earn more.. utter crap

    Ahhhhhh....now it all becomes clear....

I'm in two minds about that....I don't know if I'd ever buy a new car, but I can see why it's so easy to do if you can afford it....

Especially something high performance like a 911...you wouldn't want to buy something someone had ragged the hell out of, but that's what? £70,000 new? That's a whole lot of money....

If I was buying a car just for me, it'd be an old Mustang, or an Aston Martin....something that isn't just about performance, it's about loving the car. Something with character.

I'm not an over achiever, nor did what I've done, or who I've become come easily to me. I've been forced to work hard to get here, and I'm glad I was, because I get a sense of achievement from it, and that's my satisfaction. I know it doesn't work for everyone, and I love the live and let live mentality.

However, I've had a fair amount of experience dealing with people of the older generation who lament, almost universally, about their wish that they'd worked harder/tried harded/ saved more so they weren't so miserable now. After all, how many people does it take telling you that working harder and making more of yourself means you'll be happier later? Short term isn't everything, but for some people it is....I hope that you are one of those people, because people who can enjoy life at such a low key level deserve to have a low key life.

Unfortunately life, and the world, are both bitches, and will try to screw you every step of the way. If the goverment doesn't get you, then recession might, if recession doesn't get you, then illness will, if illness doesn't get you....you get the idea....
Depends how you define things I guess. I'm probably not too bad... average, maybe a little better, on the career front. When at work in my current job of 6 months I "work hard" and do my best to get acknowledged and move up the ranks (I just completed a review and am expecting a 2K rise and more involvement in the IT/network areas. It's basically a rubber stamp to get it at this point)

My previous job falling apart was the kick up the backside I needed to get out of that awful dead-end near-min-wage job and get into something more professional (currently web designer / systems analyst dual title.. snazzy lol) - granted I could still do better, probably down South, but for various reasons this is more than enough to keep me happy, pay off debts (by end of year) and move on in life (get own place etc).

I can do preaching too, and there are far worse people out there For example a friend of mine, now he is a friend so I don't like to diss him too much behind his back LOL. But he's a prime example of "far worse" - someone who is unhappy, yet completely unwilling to help himself.

On the contrary he seems absolutely determined to be in the biggest rut he can, it's as if he really enjoys moaning that life's ****, everything's against him etc, so much that he places himself in that position. I've never fathomed if it's an attention thing or what, but he had loads of attention to begin with.

Right now he works in the public sector for nigh on minimum wage, and moans about it every single day, usually going off on a huge drunken tirade once or twice a month. What has he done to improve the situation? Look for another job? Raise issues with a supervisor? Nope, none of the above, naff all - just moan that life's unfair and expect someone to come along and set the world to rights - then start gambling, and slip down that slope too.

Now it's "waah I never have any money" (yeah, because of the gambling and the unwillingness to find a job that doesn't piss you off so much that it leads to doing so!) "so I want to move out of my parents' house and live in the car". Yep, for some inexplicable reason he wants to make his life even ****ter.

To be honest, if he wasn't a friend I'd want to kick his arse. Whilst I'm not a high flying mega ambitious sort of person, I do know that the only person who can make your life better is yourself, and have very little time for people who bemoan life without lifting a finger to try and improve it.

I think my point is, I'm happy, but if I was unhappy then I'd do something about it - whatever it takes - and so whilst wealth helps, the more important thing is attitude and self respect.

Back to the topic of moi, currently if I left the beauty of the lake district and followed the rest of the high flyers to the big cities, that would actually be my regret if I was on my deathbed: giving up on my own dream of living and working right here, with the natural world at its finest and mountains on the doorstep, for the sake of earning a few more pennies. If I ended up with kids etc then I suppose it'd be a case of "needs must", but can't see that happening any time soon, and I'd rather have tried my best to stay right here.

You've had, I dunno, 15 months of me going on and on? Turns out I called it too early- quelle surprise. 'The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent' as Keynes once said.

I'm still right though. If you're serious about protecting your wealth then you have literally a month or two to flog your house. Pretty much every newspaper front page was a bear's wet dream a week ago- the BOE seem to have finally shattered the illusion that ownership of a house is ownership of a bottomless pot of gold. Interest rates will go up at least one more time this year.

I, like pretty much evryone else on this thread, want to be wealthy enough to enjoy my life and set myself up early for a comfortable retirement. As it is, the cost of living in London means I simply can't put any meaningful amount of money away for my future- I live a genuinely frugal life and still it all goes.

So I plan on making money by shorting a falling market. Making money out of other peoples losses if you will. And I won't feel the slightest bit guilty about it- because I've worked, overall, pretty damned hard through my 20s and I've more or less sod all to show for it.

I just dont think there will be a housing crash worth calling it that in the foreseeable future. There just arent enough homes to go around.

Even if there was a housing crash, it will barely affect prices in areas like London and other big cities. People will still want to live there and work there - unless there is a depression and major job losses to accompany the housing price crash.

No one can predict the market .. So I guess we will have to wait and see.

And there we have it, your exaclty right, i have been working in the environment every day. And my manager doest know, my area manager doest really know, although he does know a hell of a lot, people read something in the paper and think they know the market, simple fact is they dont.

Interest rates rising we were being told the other day doesnt actually eqaute to a vast amount mroe cost, its just buzz words that put people into diss illusion..

If I could be, I'd choose to be super rich. 5 supercars, multimillion £ mansion in beverly hills with gym, bowling alley etc, private island in French Polynesia, own boat and all that. But of course I know that it's not really feasible unless you're the CEO of a multibillion £ company so as funkstar said, it's just a dream.

Hope to start a job in the Post Production (special effects for films basially) area next year working in London while my gf goes to uni to do molecular biology then after 3 years we'll see where we are. I'd love to have that career for life as it's one of the few jobs I can imagine making it worthwhile getting up for in the morning, but I don't want to work in London forever and since all the jobs are there, may move to the US or Canada or something.

Don't want kids or pets as that's more money to spend and I'm greedy, I'd rather have my money for myself than spend it on some kids I don't even want So hopefully can have a pretty decent life, maybe not quite what I want but I'll never get that so I'll have to deal with it.

    my 5ish year plan:

buy house (check), start in low level job (with good perks & sponsored learning!), complete qualification, new job with slightly more money, have baby no.1, go back to work full time, learn some more, new job with more money.

The boy totally landed on his feet when he left uni and got his first job with 3 mobile, then 11months later got a promotion to "financial advisor", and looks to be on track for earning a pretty decent wage sooner rather than later.

Because my uni course was a complete waste of time (IMO) i'm having to start again from scratch and start with junior/temp jobs, thankfully after 1 year i've managed to get myself some pretty decent experience under my belt by working my arse off.

All the hard work will pay off eventually, i'm sure

If someone who has been in real estate 20 years cant predict really whats going to happen, how can you?

Im talking from the point of view of the central london director of our company, and his words were " Its near impossible to predict the market"

I'm still on my first job as an Electrician's Mate; I'm helping to wire up a Thai Restaurant in O2 Arena (The Millenium Dome).

The contract on this job ends in about two weeks, I don't earn much either, but when I'm on my second and third jobs, my pay will increse by a few pounds each time , its 60 hours a week as well but its all good, I love my job.

i'll be doing this for the next 2 - 3 years, then I'll start to mix in some commissioning, inspecting and testing which will see me moseying along the £24k per year mark.

After this lot, I'll be back into to college / university on a day realease basis for AutoCAD training and I hope to work as an AutoCAD Electrical Engineer until the age of 28 - 30, I'll then after a ramping up of experience move into the freelance sector and work for myself on big fat contract via the mountains of contacts I've gained and will have gained up to that point.

I hope to retire with a large wedge of cash in the bank, my own home, my lovely wife and a gaggle of children .

I plan to ruthlessly stick to this plan as much as possible but I am flexible.
