Anyone heard of Sage Francis? He's about the only artist that I would class as hip/hop that I actually like. It is very well produced and he talks about real things, not putting a cap in someones ass!

LOL in every song tupac has made it will have one of those words.
Nas is not as bad but still.

I knew a thread about hiphop would involve people complaining about the stereotypical assumption that hiphop is about "cars, bitches and bling" because that's the few parts they've seen of it on TV. It's unfortunate that popular urban consists of a lot of music themed around general nonsense in terms of lyrics but theres far more subgenres of hiphop than most people know, with many artists working in each one. You just don't hear a lot of it because the most popular and easy stuff to listen to (which go down well in clubs, with peoples mates on the hifi, etc) involves that cool club sound but if you're looking for respectable music with consistently meaningful content, then there's also a huge audience of artists and listeners for that. For example, my favourite "proper" hiphop song at the moment is this;

It's a bit unfair to judge a genre of music you don't listen to, because as well as usually being wrong it's quite narrow minded. It's like me saying "LOL ROCK MUSIC IS FOR GOTHS" and things which is plain nonsense, and I would know since I really enjoy rock music myself (I listen to Muse, QOTSA, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden, etc) as well as other genres. But this stuff always happens so I guess there's not much I can do to stop ya lol.

You know what pisses me off? It's that fantastic music like Aesop Rock, Jurassic 5 and Blackalicious and the like get no recognition for clever rhymes, intricate beats and lack of 'I've got a millions hoe's and MILLION bucks, whether or not my albums sucks' type "hip-hop".
Damn, the underground music is phemoninal, but the chart stuff is crap.
J5 are so under-rated
yes Jurassic 5 are also pretty good!
