I have tried 3 different usb pens in my pc, and each one says access denied when i try to view the data. When i place the usb pens in a different pc, each one works perfectly.
I have rebooted numerous times.
I do have about 7 mapped drives, but surely this shouldn't interfere ?
Help as this is really bugging me!
It would appear that i have insufficient rights to perform a format of the usb pen, so i got to ask how on earth did i lose rights, and how can i get them bacK!)

1.) this may be better in Operating system and application help.
2.) do you see a drive letter assinged to the drive in windows explorer ?
3.) what file system is on the pen drivers
4.) Can you see the pen drivers in disk administrator.

Try unmount the mapped drives and seeI do have about 7 mapped drives, but surely this shouldn't interfere ?
I did encounter some problems when both the network drive and the usb stick gets the same drive letter.

Windows is stupid at drive assignments... it seems to let network drives and removable disks occupy the same letter in some circumstances.

Just great, the extre drives are mapped automatically by domain policy.
so change the letter of the pen drive.

Still no joy...
No mapped network drives, and i have renamed the usb pen. I have re-installed the chipset drivers which control the usb and still no joy. im going to format on a different box and see if that makes a difference.
Well formatting the pen on another pc didnt work. It seems to be a permissions thing. But where on earth can i check/change
If your on a domain it may be locked out due to a domain policy or devicelock so you will need to enable the relevant policy in AD
i am on a domain but there is no policy in force, and it did work before, and works in other machines on the network.
Sounds like that machine is picking up a strange policy from AD, as said before I have seen mapped drives mess up USB keys before but you say you have tried that.
Try going to the command prompt and typing 'gpupdate /force' and then try again. Otherwise a rebuild sounds like it is needed.

That doesnt work either. I cant beleive there is a gpo that is causing this. There must be some registry hack ?
So you can't read the data, can't format the usb drive. Sounds like you've got something that corrupts USB memory sticks. Format the USB stick on a Linux machine just to see if you can do it on that.

The pen formats fine on other win32 boxes, reads-writes data. Its not the pen. Curse windblowz!
