    Re: Nines advert

It's an annoying style of ad, because it's very easy to overshoot slightly and trigger it.

I hope HEXUS doesn't become home to many more of these "mouseover to get bigger" ad's because they're really annoying, second only to the ones you find on Yahoo that automatically enlarge to fill most of the screen with some stupid ad.

.... we always are keen to try and innovate with the way we work with companies

Feedback is useful - however, it does seem sometimes whatever we do we annoy people

    Re: Nines advert

I don't generally mind the ads, as I know they are an important revenue stream, however, when they interfere with my user experience I am not such a fan.

I wouldn't have posted this if it was just me being clumsy, but it's happened again this morning a few times

    Re: Nines advert

    Cheers

I've just spent sometime with the ad - and it only triggers when I go over it or hit the physical advert - I am going to see if we can do anything to make it less sensitive...

    Re: Nines advert

a good compramise might be adding some inertia to it, that is to say the developers logic should be like:

mouse in, set callback timer for 200ms
mosue out, cancel call back timer.

    call back timer:
    expand.

that way if you just moved over it quickly, it wouldn't expand...... don't know if thats what you ment already.

Its the one for the sodding smilie that anoys me, adds with sound = bad. How am i ment to have the pretence i'm working?

    Re: Nines advert

^ yes, that sounds fine... more of a delay would solve the problem. I just don't like the "instantness" of it, if I want to look at it, then fine, drop it down, but there's a limit to how many times a day you want to look at an advert!

Edit: Ok, i now have 3 copies of the advert open... I know I should be doign work, but that's not the point!

    Re: Nines advert

your standard banner adds are fine no problem what so ever.

This interactive one is terrible, if you move your mouse to get away from the browser to another window and pass over it, it activates. There is nothing innovative about this add, its just annoying and removes from your positive stance of targeted advertising, eg: the lockable usb pen drive for a technical forum is excellent. This current add is just as annoying as the annoying ones next to the replyto box.

Please please return back to the targeted gif/jpg based animations which your free to click on. should you want to.
    It is Inevitable.....

    Re: Nines advert

I had noticed it but automatically compensated for it without realising what the ad was even for! I personally find the ad next to the Quick-Reply box a lot more effective.

Did anyone notice the Intel ad with the dog seeming to cause browser crashes? It hasn't affected me today, but before the weekend Firefox was suffering from a memory leak that seemed to coincide with each time I visited Hexus and saw that ad.

    Re: Nines advert

Agree with chicken about the reply box advert. Its definitely more effective having an advert there.
