Not sure how this got so off-topic but not only is ecstasy safer than practically all other drugs especially alcohol and tobacco as noted above, it's also safer than other activities such as fishing FFS. It's as close to a perfect drug as we will probably develop anytime soon.

There's a thought experiment for you; suppose a perfect drug is invented - made for pennies out of sustainable free-range organic fair trade ingredients, completely safe and non-addictive, no ill-effects at all either short- or long-term, produces a feeling of euphoria/contentedness/urge to install solar panels/whatever positive effect you like. Do you believe such a drug should be freely available or prohibited. Why?

As to the absolute idiocy of banning Boom Bye Bye from public places, a song that's got be 10 years old, has been freely available for all this time, and has not sparked any homophobic murders in Brighton and Hove, what utter tosh that is. A pure case of "I don't happen to like it so therefore it must be prohibited".

Incitement to violence/hatred?!? I suppose they've also banned the Old Testament and Koran, both of which explicitly call for gays to be killed, only from a position of self-asserted absolute moral authority. If I turn the TV on in a pub and it's the history channel, which just seems to air documentaries containing footage of Hitler's speeches 24 hours a day, am I guilty of incitement to hatred then? What if noone present speaks German, still incitement? Radio 4 played an excerpt of Boom Bye Bye this morning, presumably the first time dancehall ragga has been included on the Today programme, are they guilty of incitement? What absolute drooling imbeciles the council consists of.

Just listened to it now via Last.fm......

    1. The lyrics are clear to hear the "boom bye bye to the batty boy head" repeated
    2. It's a pretty crap song

Though saying that I am used to listening to fairly alternative view music from the ska/punk/metal that I listen to (for instance Kill all the white men by NOFX) and the opinion is pretty poorly presented, almost as as bluntly done as Amen did with their Coma America album

    OFF TOPIC:
I think whatever people do with their own bodies, as long as it doesn't affect others I don't care that much

And Fraz...it's called steam , and also frozen Dihydrogen Monoxide can also cause burns aswell

How long before we face the burning of books?

It isn't the first time songs about violence have been banned, imho banning the song just glorifies it

I remember when Body Count - Cop Killer was banned in the UK, everyone wanted it the album with that song on is a rarity now, it is a damn good album too

    Re: Music banned, what next...books?

This is almost certainly a publicity stunt by someone in Brighton council. As others have said, I very much doubt that homophobic dancehall records/ club nights a) are popular in Brighton b) likely to incite anyone in Brighton to commit hate crimes.

That said: I quite like free speech, but I _really_ dislike homophobia in all its forms. Ultimately, if it's okay to perform songs that say (in essence as I understand it- my Jamiacan Patois isn't all that great) "I'm going to shoot all the nasty gay people"- then it must also be fine to stand up and sing about killing Black people and Jews.

Is that fine? I personally don't think that it is.

That's always been my point with racist/sexist/homophobic etc, in fact, my whole damn view on "political correctness". It should be simpler than it is, not more complicated, don't be a bastard to another human being because they belong to a different ethnic grouping, in fact, try and forget they belong to an ethnic grouping altogether.

It's far simpler to dislike individuals

I was going to mention that. I'd love a test case to come up to see what the law actually said. No doubt these books would get a more lenient view taken of them.
